Vaccina microorganismum vel virus debilitatum (vivum aut interfectum), aut proteina vel toxina ex organismo continet. Ad adaptivam corporis immunitatem stimulandam, vaccina aegrotationem a morbo contagioso effectam prohibere adiuvant. Cum satis magna incolarum pars vaccinata esset, immunitas gregalis fit, ut homines in periculum vocati qui vaccinum non obtinere possunt protegantur, quia etiam virale genus debile eis fortasse nocebit.[1] Efficacitas vaccinationis late investigata et confirmata est.[2][3][4] Vaccinatio est efficacissima morborum contagiosorum prohibendorum ratio medica,[5][6][7][8] et immunitas propter vaccinationem longe lateque diffusa plerumque variolam eradicatam morbosque deletos, inter quos poliomyelitis et tetanus, in plurimis orbis terrarum regionibus effecit. Aliquot autem morbi, sicut morbillus, propter parvos vaccinationis gradus annis 2010 increbrescunt, partim propter haesitantiam vaccinorum.[9]
