Information
Background
You and the Guard have proven you can defend the Pride Lands. But it hasn't stopped Scar's army. We need a change in strategy. I say we take the fight with Scar into the Outlands.Simba to Kion
During the dry season, after getting trampled upon and disrespected one too many times, Ushari went into self-exile into the Outlands. There, he plotted with the hyenas to summon the spirit of Scar in order to eliminate the Lion Guard and take control of the Pride Lands. After stealing Makini's bakora staff and kidnapping Kiara, Janja confronted Kion at the volcano and threatened his family and friends, which caused the young lion to use the Roar of the Elders in anger. The Roar started a volcanic eruption. Although the Guard saved themselves and Kiara from getting burned, Scar's ghost returned within the flames of the volcano, giving Ushari and the hyenas a leader. Over time, many Outlanders joined together into an army and engaged in many battles against the Pride Landers with the intention of taking down Simba and the Lion Guard and destroying the Pride Lands.[1]
Years into this conflict, Simba announced a siege on the Outlands in the hopes of eliminating Scar's army. Meanwhile, Janja began to have doubts about serving Scar. The skinks overheard this and informed Scar, who came up with a plan to ensure his victory. He told Janja to go to the Lair of the Lion Guard to distract the Lion Guard, which he did, only to discover that it was a trap to get both his clan and the Lion Guard killed in a fire. Realizing that he couldn't trust Scar and that the Pride Landers wouldn't trust him, Janja headed to the Outlands to find Jasiri. The Lion Guard and Janja's clan saved themselves, while Anga and Hadithi helped the royal family get down from Pride Rock safely.
Scar's ghost appeared at Pride Rock and threatened the Pride Landers, which prompted them to resolve to end his threat once and for all. Jasiri arrived with Janja, who explained what Scar had told him about Kion's supposed ability to defeat Scar. The Pride Landers then resolved to assault the Outlands and use Kion's Roar to neutralize Scar.
Back in the Outlands, Scar informed Ushari that he had lied to Janja, for if Kion used the Roar in the volcano's caldera, he would start a massive eruption that would destroy the Pride Lands. He then explained that he had gotten his scar from a snake who had been allied with a rogue lion. The two had tried to hold the cure over Scar's head so that he would obey them, but in his rage, Scar had destroyed them with the Roar instead. He had returned to Pride Rock, expecting to be praised by Mufasa for destroying the lion and snake, only for Mufasa to give him the nickname "Scar." Since then, he had resented Mufasa and the royal family ("When I Led the Guard"). He then told Ushari that it was Kion's turn to obtain a scar.[2]
The battle
“ | Kion: I do have another choice, Scar. Something only one Lion Guard leader can do to another. Scar: And what's that? Kion: I forgive you. Scar: You... You what? Kion: But I can't judge you for everything you've done. The Lions of the Past need to do that.

The next morning, the Pride Landers and their allies assaulted the Outlands, giving the Lion Guard time to breach the volcano's inner chamber. After defeating the skinks, the Guard confronted Scar's spirit in the caldera. Under Scar's command, Ushari snuck up on Kion and bit his eye, giving him a scar and injecting him with venom. Bunga quickly defended his friend, pinning Ushari down as Kion got to his feet.
Scar taunted Kion, asserting that Kion was now marked by evil and had the same destiny as Scar himself. Instead of giving in to his anger, Kion remembered his grandfather's advice on not fighting fire with fire. Instead of using the Roar, Kion summoned the Great Lions of the Past, who judged Scar by sending down rain that melted him away. Before he was completely destroyed, Scar warned Kion that the Roar was a curse and that they were the same. Appalled at Scar's failure, Ushari escaped Bunga's grip and tried to attack Kion, but Bunga intercepted him, and the two rolled over the cliff. Ono saved Bunga from falling to his death, while Ushari fell into the lava.
After the fight, the Pride Landers celebrated their victory, and Jasiri became the leader of the surviving Outlanders. However, Ono mourned the loss of his sight due to too much exposure to smoke and volcanic fumes, and Kion also suffered a loss of control over the Roar due to Ushari's venom. The rest of the Guard took Kion and Ono to get their injuries inspected by Rafiki, who informed them about the legendary Tree of Life, which was the only place with the power to heal them. Kion and the Guard therefore left the next morning for the Tree of Life.[2]
