Kurumi Tokisaki

Kurumi Tokisaki (in Japanese: 時崎狂三, Tokisaki Kurumi) is a major antagonist-turned-supporting character in the Date A Live franchise. While initially an antagonist, she later develops into an anti-villain once her true motives and backstory were revealed.

What Makes Her Magnificent?

  • Her backstory that led to her becoming a villain is very sympathetic, as she was once normal girl who was transformed into a Spirit after accidentally killing her best friend and later lied to by the first spirit about how she could right the wrongs of the villains who came before her.
  • She's an extremist, as nearly all of her villainous actions stem from her desire to undo the existence of the First Spirit no matter what and prevent the deaths of millions of innocent people.
  • She kept up a convincingly charming facade when she infiltrated Shido's school as a transfer student, only to later force him to choose whether to have a spacequake destroy his hometown or Kurumi's "City of Devouring Time" devour Shido's entire school, thus proving her to be calculating and strategic (even moreso than many of the heroes).
  • She helped Shido battle against Miku Izayoi and DEM and assisted in him discovering where Nia Honjou was residing after he saved her from an "Efreet".
  • She's not above using her spirit powers for good, as she used them to send Origami back in time to undo the deaths of her parents, and later to help Shido learn the reason behind Origami's inversion and correct it, even convincing herself from the past to help him.
  • During the battle against Mio Takamiya and Isaac Ray Peram Westcott, Kurumi sent one of her clones back in time for the sake of conveying the event to Shido in case she's killed in the fight before managing to take back Nia's Qlipha Crystal from Westcott.
  • Overall, whenever she does decide to join forces with Shido, she proves herself to be one of his strongest and most competent allies.
  • Despite being seductive and flirty, she's actually one of the more tame spirits in terms of sexuality. With both Origami and Miku being arguably more sexually aggressive than Kurumi.

What Makes Her A Baddie?

  • She's introduced as a serial killer responsible for the deaths of about 10,000 people, solidifying her reputation as the "Worst Spirit" (although had she succeeded with her goal of using their time to travel back to the first spacequake and prevent it along with the creation of spirits as a whole, all of their deaths would've been reverted).
  • She's the first spirit introduced willing to attack humans out of malice, unlike others who can prove to be threats such as Tohka and Yoshino (who respectively only attacks for the sake of self-defense and the only problems caused by her are a result of her failing to control her powers).
