Flip-Out Wall

Flip-Out Walls (also called Reversible Walls) are a type of wall and platform featured in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Description

Flip-Out Walls are similar to the Flip-Swap Platforms, but the major difference is that they do not entirely flip but rather emerge/retract from their filling holes whenever Mario or Luigi does a Star Spin. Flip-Out Walls can be either used as temporary platforms or Wall Jumped across to access hard-to-reach areas.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2

Flip-Out Wall Land Red
A Flip-Out Wall Platform on the Red Side.

Flip-Out Walls appear exclusively in Flip-Out Galaxy, being a more advanced alternative to the Flip-Swap Platforms, which primarily appeared in the Flip-Swap Galaxy. Like the Flip-Swap Platforms, Flip-Out Walls can emerge / retract from their filling holes whenever Mario or Luigi preforms a Star Spin. The Plumbers can use these walls to preform wall jumps to scale the metropolis of a Galaxy. They can also spin to retract Flip-Out Walls that may block their path, some Flip-Out Walls also have sloped angles at the top which the plumbers will slide off of if they land on them so watch out for these. There are even some Flip-Out Walls which are used as platforms for the Plumbers to cross. Near the end of the Galaxy, the Plumbers will have to use strings of Wall Jumps and Star Spins to emerge the opposite wall of which they are leaping towards as they scale the final building.

During the effects of the Clone Comet in Cosmic Clone Wall Jumpers, the Cosmic Clones are shown to be able to phase right through the Flip-Out Walls.

Trivia

  • The sound the Flip-Out Walls make when they swap colors is identical to the sound made when the Flip-Swap Platforms are flipping.
