Big Tail Goomba

SM wiki icon   ML wiki icon

Big Tail Goombas (also called Grand Tail Goombas) are enemies which first appear in Super Mario 3D Land and return in all four Mario & Luigi series games for Nintendo 3DS.

Profile

Physical description

Big Tail Goombas are a variant of both a Grand Goomba and a Tail Goomba, and they have a large tanooki tail on their backside. Big Tail Goombas almost always have an angry look on their face, like many types of Goombas in general.

Behavior

Big Tail Goombas use similar attacks to that of a regular Tail Goomba, except they can float much higher, and because their tail is larger, a Big Tail Goomba can swing it a wider range.

In Super Mario 3D Land

Here, they are named Grand Tail Goomba, and are first encountered in World 1-1. Big Tail Goombas most prominently appear in World 5-5, where some drop a Super Leaf upon being defeated. Grand Tail Goombas behave identically to regular Tail Goombas but their tail swing is much stronger, has slightly larger range, and they can also fly higher than a Tail Goomba as well. Grand Tail Goombas however, are no more durable than their regular-sized counterparts and can be defeated with any attack.

In Mario & Luigi series

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Big Tail Goombas first appeared in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team in the Mario & Luigi series. They are only fought in Dreamy Neo Bowser Castle. Big Tail Goombas are also never seen on the overworld and are only seen in battle alongside Antasmen, Lakitu and Spinys.

Battle

Big Tail Goombas mainly attack by flying at Mario and then attempt to crash down on him. This attack can be counter-attacked with swinging the hammers.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Big Tail Goombas appear exclusively in the side story, Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, as both enemies and recruitable allies. They fight as Melee troopers, and their Special Skill is Spin Cycle. The in-game description is "Bulky blokes with high POW and HP. They can sweep up foes by spinning their tails.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

BJJBigTailGoomba

Big Tail Goombas exclusively appear in the side story Bowser Jr.'s Journey. Like in Minion Quest, they are enemies and recruitable allies. They are once again Melee troopers and retain Spin Cycle as their Special Skill. They are weak against yellow Shy Guys and Ninjis. Unlike in Minion Quest, only two Big Tail Goombas can be recruited at once.
