Springboards, also named Jumping Boards, is an item introduced in the Donkey Kong series game Donkey Kong Jr. before its debut in the Mario franchise with Super Mario Bros..
When a player's character bounces on a Springboard, the player can press a button with the precise timing to give their character a boost in their jump height.
In Donkey Kong Jr.
In the second level Jump Board Scene, there is a single Jump Board around the bottom-left of the area. Its sprite is pink in the arcade version but blue for the Nintendo Entertainment System version.
In the Super Mario series
Super Mario Bros.
The sprites for Springboard show both their boards red. The first level in which a Springboard appears is World 2-1. While Mario or Luigi are bouncing on a springboard, the player can press the jump button around the precise time when either character lands on a Springboard to have them perform a heightened jump.
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Regular Springboards return from Super Mario Bros., using the same sprites and retaining its functionality. Aside from this, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels also introduces a variant named the Super Spring that, when jumped on, allows Mario or Luigi to remain in the sky even longer, for more than five seconds.
Super Mario World
The boards of the Spring Boards have been recolored green. Certain Springboards come out from Question Blocks, and Mario or Luigi now have the ability to pick one up. A Springboard can also be placed on its side, making it very hard to deal with.
In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
There are two types of trampolines: warp trampolines, which allow the party to escape to the world map, and smile trampolines, which allow the party to exit an area and enter a neighboring location.
In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Trampolines are a Bros. Item that require the availability of Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. When using the Trampoline, each brother jumps up and lands on the enemy in a random order. If a brother manages to perform a Timed Hit, they return on the Trampoline to perform another jump. If timed poorly, the Trampoline is kicked away, and the attack ends after all four brothers fall.
Trampolines can be bought at certain Item Shops for 120 coins.
