History
Alcala had an official policy of tolerance towards mutants and promoted themselves as a model of coexistence between humans and mutants. Over 4% of the population were mutants.[1]
During the Chlorite invasion, Alcala was sealed in an airtight forcefield by two Diascar ships to contain a Chlorite mole. The Brazilian government declared this an attack on their sovereignty and launched an aerial assault but were forced to retreat by the Shi'ar Imperial Guard.[1]
Within three days, the entire population was suffocated by the chlorine gas produced by the mole. Once Wolverine located the mole, the town was incinerated to eliminate the Chlorite microbes.[2] Fleet Leader Poratine would have preferred to vaporize the town earlier to give the citizens a merciful end but believed that humans needed to witness the horror in order to take the Chlorite threat seriously.[1]Residents
