Synopsis for 1st story
After sealing their truce,[1] Madelyne Pryor seeks to honor her end of the deal by putting her house in order and tells Cyclops that she is stopping the demonic invasion of New York.[2] She speaks with Chasm at the Tree of Exquisite Liberation, who tirades about giving his patience to get Peter to eat an Apple of the Tree, but Madelyne stops him. Madelyne lets him know that Jean Grey showed her an uncommon kindness by granting her what she wanted with memories of raising baby Nathan. While Ben hesitantly congratulates her, he fails to convince her that Peter will break soon, and Madelyne tells him the scheme is over. Ben tantrums over only being halfway to his goal and lashes out that she's ending things since she got her objective. Still, Madelyne reminds him that her generosity sponsored the plan, and carrying the scythe grants her the authority and responsibility of ruling Limbo. Ben comments how her "betrayal" doesn't hurt but feels like home before he swings off. Madelyen asks Hallow's Eve if she understands, and she replies that they can take care of themselves, like always.
In "New York" Limbo, a bemused Spider-Man is surprised to hear Rek-Rap's name, easily deducing why he chose it and that he hates it, as the Insidious Six chide a fellow demon for helping Spider-Man as they're supposed to be breaking him. Still, Rek-Rap battles them alongside Spider-Man. In her castle, Madelyne informs her servants that the X-Men are allies now as she plans to order Limbo's forces to withdraw from New York. With Hallow's Eve in her throne room, they discuss heavy is the head with a crown, and Madelyne believes in Eve's potential if she eve seeks the "head," believing that whatever Eve does next will be mighty and terrifying. Hallow's Eve proves her correct immediately by putting on her Frankenmask, glad Madelyne "understands her" and takes the Scythe of Sorrows by force, sending Madelyne out the window. She tells Madelyne that she let her keep her head, but Eve knows someone more deserving with a little less responsibility. As Spider-Man directs Rek-Rap on how to fight, Spider-Man directs Jonah and Robbie to follow the demons to the exit. Jonah gets obstructed by a chicken demon and scares it off, pretending to be a Goblin, which Robbie reminds him isn't a good thing.
Hallow's Eve meets with Chasm at the Tree, rotted out and dead when Madelyne ceased her patronage, and brings his attention to Madelyne's Scythe. Telling him that each weapon symbolizes their authority, and losing the weapon means losing the authority, she hands it to Chasm that he can take whatever he wants, now having authority. Feeling they deserve it as compensation for their pain, Chasm takes the Scythe and morphs into a hulking winged demon, as he exclaims that Limbo shall be ruled by one whose pain is greater, becoming "King Chasm." Elsewhere, demons fight over going and Madelyne's order to return, but they are encircled by the Insidious Six before they can race to it. Before Spider-Man and Rek-Rap can retaliate, King Chasm arrives, telling Spider-Man that New York is damned as payment for his refusal to relinquish his soul. Spider-Man is unimpressed and charges King Chasm, only to be swatted away like a bug and Rek-Rap beat down like a ragdoll. As the demons see King Chasm hold the Scythe, he uses that demonic authority to lead the demonic forces onto Earth, arriving in Central Park. As Robbie and Jonah check on Spider-Man, they're met by the X-Men and Madelyne Pryor, inviting the webhead into an alliance to defeat King Chasm and cease his incursion on New York. Given the new development, Spider-Man joins them.
