Synopsis for 1st story
As of late, and hesitant to jinx himself, Peter's life has been going "good" for him. Not perfect, but good, as his work for Oscorp under Norman Osborn has been a good experience and gives him the income he needed, and the neighborhood has been friendlier to him after the recent chaos. Even his dating status with Felicia, although he had to use his wordsmithing to have her agree to help him bust the Soho Scorchers, with their dynamic working wonders. After busting the Scorchers, they have some rooftop hot chocolate as Felicia asks Peter for a weekend getaway to decompress after the last few weeks.[1] While Peter is skeptical, Felicia assures him New York will be just fine for one weekend, and he has no excuse for staying that doesn't include "power" and "responsibility." When they head for the hotel, Felicia's daredevil driving gives Peter a panic before she asks what he told Aunt May about the trip. Still, Peter feigns independence of May's oversight. Earlier, Peter had told May he'd be at an engineering convention for the weekend. Still, she quickly deduced it was a getaway and advised Peter to "bring a raincoat." At high speed on a long road, Felicia enjoys the drive by letting the wheel go as she stands in her seat, with Peter holding the wheel steady. With this, Peter thinks he's ready to move forward a step with whatever their relationship is, and he thinks that for the first time in a long time, his life is turning a corner. However, at the hotel, Peter is befuddled by the concurrent presence of Mary Jane and her mysterious husband, Paul, trying to explain that his weekend getaway with Felicia is a coincidence but turning things into an awkward meeting. While Paul doesn't know what to say, Mary Jane doesn't want to leave as it would be rude to leave in the middle of dinner, followed by a remark about the rudeness of stalking, prompting Peter to be mature about the situation and leave. However, his robe is caught on the table leg and unfurls to reveal novelty boxers, convincing Mary Jane to believe him, to which she and Felicia make jokes about his style of romancing.
Before anything else happens, a loud rumble bellows through the estate, leading Peter and Felicia to make their exit, with Mary Jane subtly smiling, having seen Peter again. One quick drive up a mountain road later, Spider-Man finishes his "Spider-splaining" to Black Cat about the science of Shocker's gauntlets and Black Cat admits she let him since he just saw Mary Jane. Black Cat knows their history and the attraction to her and won't act jealous since she's a grown-up, so she tells Peter to admit to himself he's still holding a torch for Mary Jane. Peter is hesitant since Felicia is placing her claws so close to his jugular, but she imparts that relationships are built on trust, and they can thrive or fail by that measure of trust, so she asks him to trust her with the truth even if he won't trust himself. Before he can answer, he dodges a vibro-blast and found "Shocker" along with a knock-off Sinister Six, chasing White Rabbit making outdated references. After she's caught by "Mysterio," Spider-Man steps in and webs him as Black Cat knocks down "Green Goblin" while complaining about Upstate New York having once been tranquil before the hipsters invaded. But as the quips start flying, Rabbit calls a time-out to tell the "Sinister Six" that Spider-Man and Black Cat are the real deal, not paid actors. Kareem reveals himself, and the whole situation is a film shoot, with Rabbit telling "Mysterio" actor Mychal that everything is fine.
At a nearby lodge, Mychal explains that the actors are geniuses who got together for a start-up, The Synergists, and the filming was part of the launch party. Spider-Man notes that they're equipped with weapons of mass destruction, while Mychal argues the tech are no longer WMDs, but Spider-Man brings up how "Shocker" caused an earthquake ten miles away. Although Rabbit argues it's just glorified paintball as Mychal has since fixed the problem, Spider-Man asks Kareem about the situation, learning Rabbit was meant to sell the tech for Tombstone. The "Doc Ock" and "Shocker" actors analyze Spider-Man's Suit and Web-Shooters, and he nerds out to explain their functionality until Black Cat reminds him about the situation and resumes his heroing. While Kareem is worried about Tombstone finding out, Rabbit is emphatic that Tombstone won't find out as she's confident nobody will tell him. Black Cat likes the idea of renting out the villain tech, and Rabbit notes that tech wizards looking for a thrill are more amenable than gangsters with them. While Spider-Man is concerned about a possible "customer" escalating things, Rabbit reminds him of the backroom rules: if customers get too handsy with the merch, they lose their hands. Rabbit is excited at the idea, making more profit than a sale and turning over Tombstone's pay, but Spider-Man remains hesitant while Black Cat aims to humor them while eating their caviar. As the group is about to have a toast, they're wondering where Mychal went since he's their CEO, only for the "Green Goblin" actor to find him dead in the kitchen with Rabbit's umbrella through his brain. While Rabbit is more concerned about Mychal was a good kisser, Spider-Man fails to calm everyone down as the actors ready their respective villain tech, each not wanting to go to jail. When Spider-Man asks if Rabbit installed kill switches, she admits she's barely able to turn on her phone, much to Kareem's annoyance.
