Personal History

Richard Ayers was born April 28, 1924 the son of John Bache Ayers and Gladys Minnerly Ayers. He was in the 13th generation of the Ayers family that had settled in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1635.

Professional History

Richard Bache "Dick" Ayers is a comic book artist and cartoonist. Widely respected for his dramatic storytelling skills and prolific output, Ayers is also renowned for being one of the first artists in Marvel Comics' famed "Bullpen", notably as Jack Kirby's inker on many landmark Marvel Comics during it's Silver Age comics.

His work won him the 1985 National Cartoonists Society Award for Best Comic Book.

As of 2005, Ayers was still working full-time as an artist, and then in the second volume of his autobiography in trade paperback form.

In 2007, Ayers was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
