Dr. Sale invented a dimensional gateway to access alternate worlds, and used it to travel to alternate realities to acquire their technology and sell it on his own, setting up the Autolycus Corporation as his technology company. This technology was discovered by Raze Darkhölme, who infiltrated the company to steal the technology and kidnapped Dr. Sale.
Three days later, Dr Sale was discovered in the desert by the X-Men, nearing death, when a trap was sprung that transported the X-Men to a small pocket dimension. On their return they found that Dr. Sale had died. Later, to gain more answers they revived Dr Sale temporarily using Triage to gain information. Dr. Sale revealed how the dimensional gate worked and how to alter the machine to hopefully restore the human population who had all been placed in stasis. When it was revealed that Phoenix was present, Beast altered the machine to also remove all mutants from the planet, leaving only Dr. Sale left. He initiated the "Crash & Burn" protocol to destroy the gate and all the other technologies.[1]
