Hans Rooten was the son of Mayor Rooten, an undercover agent for the allied powers during WWII, pretending to be a collaborator. Hans was disgusted with the idea of his father working for the Nazis, and when he met Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos, helped them in accomplishing a sabotage mission. He fled to England with the Commandos, at the wish of Agent X who (unknown to Hans) was actually his father. He stayed with the Commandos as their mascot, until they were given a furlong in the U.S., where he helped with freeing "Reb" Ralston's parents from a group of Nazi Bundists, at which point, he stayed with the Ralston family in Kentucky.
