Reprint of the 1st story from
Fantastic Four #12
(originally printed as The Incredible Hulk)
Part 1:
Fantastic Four Vol 1 12 Title

The Thing and Alicia are exiting a symphony auditorium at the end of their date when they notice soldiers marching on the streets. Someone panics as they see through the Thing's disguise and calls him a monster. The soldiers attack Ben -- mistaking him for the Hulk. After they subdue Ben, they realize the error an apologies for the unprovoked attack. Alicia calms Ben down and he returns to the Baxter Building. There he complains about being mistaken for the Hulk to his teammates. The Fantastic Four are soon visited by General "Thunderbolt" Ross, who has come to ask for the Fantastic Four's assistance in destroying the Hulk.

Part 2:

Fantastic Four Vol 1 12 Part 2 Title

Ross then shows them footage of the Hulk as well as the recent destruction of various military test weapons that are being designed by Dr. Bruce Banner. Ross tells them that the military believes that the Hulk is responsible for the destruction of these devices. After coming up with various theories on how to take down the Hulk, the Fantastic Four bring Ross to their newest model of the Fantasti-Car that was designed by Johnny and they all fly to New Mexico to Gamma Base. When they arrive they find that the military's prototype anti-gravity missile has been wrecked. Ross introduces Reed Richards to Bruce Banner, his young assistant Rick Jones, and another scientist named Karl Kort. When Ross tells them that the Fantastic Four will be going after the Hulk, Banner tells his employer that he believes that someone is framing the Hulk for these acts of sabotage. Kort then excuses himself from the meeting and on his way out he bumps into the other members of the Fantastic Four who have been waiting impatiently outside. Kort is frightened by the Thing and flees the hallway, dropping his wallet as he goes, and it is picked up by the Torch.

Part 3:

Fantastic Four Vol 1 12 Part 3 Title

Having become fed up with waiting, the Thing comes bursting into the office with the other members of the Fantastic Four, angering Ross, especially when the Thing picks up an entire bookshelf of phone books and rips them in half. Reed calms down General Ross and Banner goes on to explain that he believes that someone, whom he and Rick have dubbed the "Wrecker", is really responsible for the acts of sabotage. The Human Torch then introduces himself to Rick, showing off his flame powers before handing over Karl Kort's wallet asking Jones to return it to him. Banner and Jones then leave and go to their secret cave hideout. There Bruce shows Rick a scale model of his next invention a device that could erect a force field around a city in order to protect it from a nuclear attack. Bruce vows to stop the Wrecker as the Hulk before he can destroy his invention. Meanwhile, Rick goes to return the wallet to Karl Kort and seeing a card sticking out of it, he is shocked to find that it is a membership card to a communist organization.[Continuity 1] Kort, having sneaked up behind the boy gets the drop on Rick and takes him prisoner at gunpoint.

Part 4:

Bruce Banner & Benjamin Grimm (Earth-616) from Fantastic Four Vol 1 12 0001
The Hulk vs. the Thing!

Later the Fantastic Four are testing out a new one man, rail-driven rocket car using the Thing as a test subject. As the Thing rockets down the rails they notice that the rails had been crushed. Ben's rocket car is quickly derailed, but he is saved from a nasty fall by his teammates. When Bruce arrives on the scene and tells them that the Wrecker kidnapped Rick Jones, the Fantastic Four dismiss this, convinced that the Hulk is responsible for the sabotage and Rick's disappearances. Bruce leaves, not revealing to them that a note was left for the Hulk from the Wrecker ordering him to send the Fantastic Four away in order to save Rick's life. Knowing that there is no way he can make the Fantastic Four leave, Banner goes back to his secret lab and uses his Gamma Ray Projector to turn into the Hulk so he can capture the Wrecker himself.[Continuity 2]

The Wrecker meanwhile takes Rick through a series of underground passages to an abandoned frontier town. Also searching the various tunnels are the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. When the Hulk crosses paths with the FF, a fight soon breaks out between him and the Thing.[Continuity 3] Unable to fight in such close quarters, the Hulk forces his way to the surface, where the fight rages on into the old ghost town. The Hulk manages to incapacitate Mr. Fantastic and the Human Torch, but as he struggles with the Thing again, a beam is fired through the ground below and strikes the Hulk from behind. Seeing this, the Invisible Girl points it out to the Thing, who digs through the Earth to find its source. Below, he finds a robot, confirming the existence of the Wrecker. Ben easily demolishes the robot and then breaks through a metal door. On the other side, he finds Kort holding Rick prisoner. Before Kort can blast Ben with an atomic-powered weapon, Sue invisibly sneaks around Kort and knocks the gun out of his hand. The Thing then apprehends Kort and frees Rick. They return to the surface to reveal the truth to Reed and Johnny and while they are comparing notes, the Hulk recovers as well and bounds away to his secret lab to change back into Bruce Banner. Bruce is waiting at the military base when they arrive, and he thanks, Reed Richards for his help. The FF is then celebrated by the military before they head back home for New York.

As they fly away, the Hulk watches from the distance as they depart, but the Hulk has a feeling that they will meet again someday.

He stops the accident from happening which prevents the Overlord from getting his powers and thus saves the universe.

Norrin Radd (Earth-616) from Silver Surfer Vol 1 6 001

Detailed Summary:
The Silver Surfer is lamenting his plight, his banishment on Earth, and his separation from Shalla-Bal. At the same time, Shalla-Bal is also lamenting the loss of Norrin Radd. Both hold out hope that one day they will be reunited.

The Surfer travels back to Al Harper's lab to pay his last respects for his fallen friend and to try and see if there is anything else he can use to breach Galactus' barrier. There he learns that it's possible to move through time if he travels faster than the speed of light. Hoping that maybe in the future the barrier would no longer exist, the Surfer speeds around the Earth faster than light and ends up in the distant future.

He is horrified to find that the Earth has been decimated, but the barrier around the Earth is now gone. Traveling to Zenn-La, the Surfer also learns that his home world has also been destroyed beyond recognition. In fact, everywhere he travels he only finds empty worlds.

Finally, he finds a world with primitive life. They instantly attack and capture him and deliver him to the army of the Overlord. The soldiers quickly bring the Surfer to their master, as he wants to know what part of the universe he has not yet conquered and destroyed. When the Surfer realizes that the Overlord has created all the destruction that he has seen across the universe, he attacks in anger.

Overlord is pleased to see the Surfer's power and promises to battle him soon. He first explains that he is a mutant, unable to be killed, and worthy to rule the universe. Then he feasts and is entertained by his captive dancers. The Surfer tries to save one of the enslaved dancers that reminds him of Shalla-Bal, but the Overlord lashes out at both of them and kills the slave. Angered by the senseless violence, he again attacks the tyrant. The Surfer senses the immense power of Overlord and is knocked unconscious when he attempts to save the slaves from their master's uncontrolled rage.

Thinking him dead, the Overlord orders the Surfer to be disintegrated. Luckily, the man in charge of this is the lone survivor of Zenn-La and he remembers the legend of Norrin Radd. He realizes that he is still alive, so he revives him and hides him from Overlord's soldiers. He tells him the origins of the Overlord. That his father was irradiated by a defective nuclear reactor and his son was born a mutant. As the boy quickly grew, his rage was nigh uncontrollable. After his parents' death, he conquered his planet and began rampaging across the universe, taking over all because he was indestructible.

When the Overlord discovers that his slave has revived the Surfer, he sends his soldiers to attack them. The Surfer easily defeats the soldiers, but not before the Zenn-Lavian is killed. Realizing that he cannot defeat the Overlord, the Silver Surfer travels back in time and destroys the nuclear reactor that was going to irradiate the Overlord's father. This act creates a new future where the Overlord no longer exists and the universe is not destroyed. The Surfer returns to his own time to find himself once more trapped on Earth.

Synopsis for "The Beast"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Amazing Adventures (Vol. 2) #13
(originally printed as Evil Is All in Your Mind!)
Continued from last issue...

Mastermind, having gathered the Blob and Unus the Untouchable to form a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, has used his illusion casting powers to convince the Beast that he had killed Iron Man, hoping that the horrified mutant would join their group under the impression that he is a murderer. Confronting the Beast as he flees the Brand Corporation headquarters, they are attacked by their would-be recruit. The battle ends when Beast finds himself outmatched and learns that Mastermind only wishes to speak to him. Appealing to the Beast's status as an outcast, Mastermind asks Hank to join their group. The Beast, confused and unable to think straight thanks to a combination of his "murder" of Iron Man, and Mastermind's manipulations, agrees to join.

They take Beast to the carnival that they operate out of, and leave Beast to practice his abilities. As he is leaving, Unus makes a comment about how he is glad that this Beast is on their side, unlike the member of the X-Men they found years ago, unaware that they are both the same mutant. Overhearing this, Hank begins to recall that he has met Mastermind and the others before, but can't quite place his finger on it.

While back at the Brand Corporation, the military attache welcomes the arrival of a new head of security, Buzz Baxter who has come to the Brand Corporation with his wife Patsy Walker. They meet with Mr. Grant who shows them around the base and tells the couple about their recent trouble with the Beast, and his battle against Iron Man the night previous. When they go into the lab of Hank McCoy, they find that Hank isn't working there. Worried that the Beast is somehow connected with this, they find Linda and begin asking her if she's seen Hank recently. This development visibly upsets Linda, while everyone believes this is because of her "feelings" for Hank, it is in reality because Hank's disappearance will have an effect on her mission to spy on him for her employers.

Deciding to pay a visit to Hank's apartment to see if he is there, Buzz and Patsy find that Hank is not home. Deciding to go into Hank's apartment by using a skeleton key, Patsy stops him since it would be illegal for Buzz to search Hank's apartment. They leave, unaware that they just passed up the biggest connection between the Beast and Hank: Hank's face mask that he wears when on the job. As they leave, they are spied by Hank's old girlfriend Vera Cantor, who believes that Hank is in a relationship with Patsy and tearfully runs off into the night wondering where he life will go from there.

Elsewhere, the Brotherhood has taken the Beast to a well-secured mansion. Mastermind reveals that they want Beast to use his superior agility to break into the mansion and steal back the Rahmur Diamond, a gem which they have been selling to prospective purchasers. Allowing them to examine the gem and buy it from them, then using stealing it back and using Mastermind's illusion powers to make the purchasers think that they still have the diamond. With their plot explained, the Beast is launched toward the house with an assist from Unus. Beast manages to get past the security systems in the mansion and steal back the diamond.

Returning to the Brotherhood members, the Beast considers for a moment that the situation is not on the up and up. Although Mastermind convinces Beast to give over the diamond, it causes friction between the others. Before a fight can break out, Mastermind's guard has dropped enough for his illusion making them invisible to people around them to fade. Some construction workers recognize Unus as a mutant that beat them up a few years ago, and gathers a mob to attack them. However, they are sent packing when Mastermind conjures up an illusion of a giant monster that sends them running.

Fleeing back to the carnival, the Brotherhood retires to Mastermind's trailer to marvel over the diamond once more. However, this is short-lived when Beast's memory suddenly returns and he attacks his "comrades". Smashing the trailer, the Beast is chased by Unus and the Blob. However, the Beast outsmarts them when he tricks them into following him into a cage. When Beast escapes them and seals them inside, the two mutants powers cause them to bounce about within the confines of the cage. Catching up with the fleeing Mastermind, Beast savagely attacks him, sending Mastermind into such a fright that Mastermind loses his mind.

Calling the police, the Beast leaves the diamond with a raving Mastermind to be found by the authorities.
