Myndai

The Myndai are a corrupt and technologically-advanced race of humanoid aliens. They are one of a number of species who are indistinguishable in appearance from pale-skinned humans from Earth.

History

Less than one million years ago,[1] the Myndai and the race known as the Lumina both became members of the Charter Federation, an interstellar peacekeeping organization.[2]

Approximately 175,000 years ago,[3] a group of Myndai calling themselves the Followers of Darkness came to Earth and conquered the planet. Some Lumina felt that a balance had been tipped that required them to react so these Lumina, the first to call themselves Followers of the Light, travelled to Earth where they fought the Followers of Darkness in the Great Chaos Wars that allegedly lasted for eons. The wars eventually ended with the defeat of the last of the Followers of Darkness, led by Lord Maur-Kon, who were trapped in their underground base in a state of suspended animation.[4]

With the immediate Myndai threat ended, most of the Lumina left Earth but a few Followers of the Light remained to act as sentinels against the possible revival of Maur-Kon and his Dark Agents. Since the subterranean base where Maur-Kon and his followers slept was located under a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean that was just off the coast of what is now Japan, the Followers of the Light built a fortress stronghold (later known as the Shogun Sanctuary) relatively nearby, in a secluded mountain range on what is now the Japanese island of Honshu. To compensate for their diminished forces, these Followers of the Light used their advanced technology to create the three Shogun Warrior robots.[4]

It is known that Lord Maur-Kon and his Dark Agents were awakened in recent years but were soon defeated again and finally removed from Earth.[2] However, nothing has been revealed about what happened to the rest of the Myndai race.

Notes

  • Although the Followers of Darkness were identified as being aliens in their first appearance in Shogun Warriors #1, the name of their race was not revealed until the entry for the Followers of the Light that appeared in the Appendix in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #4.
  • The enemies of the Followers of the Light were most often referred to as Maur-Kon and his Dark Agents but the Outline-Glossary presented in Shogun Warriors #3 established that the actual name of their group was the Followers of Darkness.
  • It was revealed in Shogun Warriors #20 that "Maur-Kon's group" had been banished by the Charter long ago. It was not made clear if the entire Myndai race was banished or if it was just his group.
  • According to the Alien Races Appendix in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #15, the Myndai were once engaged in a galaxy-wide war with the Lumina that eons ago touched upon Earth. However, the existence of such a large-scale conflict has not been confirmed in any published story.
