Synopsis for "Though Some Have Named Thee So"
In the late Harold Carl Everson is a rescuer of survivors with Paideia Emergency Volunteers in a war between humanity and alien invaders the Horde. New Roanoke, Virginia (a once thriviing port) has been laid to waste by the invaders ship. It is Harold's last day, as he has been deemed genetically compatible for the Morituri process, at the behest of his parents. He travels to the base of operations for the project and meets the commander Beth Luis Nion, the inventor of the process Dr. Kimmo Tuolema and the other candidates of Strikeforce Morituri. He is shown videos of the fatal effects of the process. During lunch an alien raid occurs, and the recruits are ushered into a secure bunker for their protection. However, the recruits are not content waiting while others die for them, so they escape by using Aline Pagrovna's newfound powers. The recruits commandeer a shuttle to the site of battle, a nearby industrial site. During the battle, Beth is injured due to being distracted by the appearance of the recruits. Harold rushes forward and drives off the invaders, but gets caught in the engines blast during takeoff, seemingly dying. Harold survives and Beth reveals the warehouses only had pharmaceuticals and chocolate, scolding the recruits for almost sacrificing their lives. Harold reflects on his experience and decides to undergo the process.
