There is a certain arrogance to being a hero. A touch of megalomania in even the most benevolent savior. ‘I can help others,’ is where it starts. ‘I can do good.’ That arrogance is checked by conscience, by intellect. But when emotion overwhelms conscience, when anger drowns out reason, as your friends discovered… ‘I can help’ becomes ‘I will help, like it or not.’ And ‘I can do good’ – becomes ‘my way or the skyway’.
