Synopsis for "Death Be Not Proud"
Earlier:
Cyclops, Angel, Marvel-Girl and Candy Southern return from their adventure in Florida to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters where they are greeted by Havok, Lorna Dane and, surprisingly, by Iceman his well. Bobby tells his friends how he searched for them in the Savage Land and that he is back on the team now. Hank arrives a little later at the mansion while Professor X is staying in Illinois with the recently revealed mutant Ashley Martin and her mother.
Now:
Havok and Lorna Dane did not travel to Long Island, so Lorna makes a trip to Salem. She wears a wig to cover her green hair. In Salem she is being watched by three men in black suits. One of them is Tad Carter who quickly approaches Lorna and uses telepathy to make her drink a cup of coffee together with him. It takes nine hours until Lorna returns to the school where Alex is awaiting her with a slight anger. Lorna feels offended because she has the feeling she was just gone for a couple of hours. Alex does not dig deeper. Instead, he tells Lorna his plan to find the mutant which Cerebro detected in the Himalayas.
In Long Island at the Worthington estate, Warren finds himself in a dilemma. He wants to prevent the marriage between his mother and his evil uncle Burtram, but to do so he needs to reveal Burtram’s past which could kill the mentally fragile Kathryn Worthington. Even Marvel-Girl is helpless because Burtram can defend his mind against her telepathy. To make matters worse, Dr. Stuart also is in cahoots with Burtram Worthington. He provided Warren’s uncle with a special tea which will slowly kill Kathryn. But to Dr. Stuarts dismay Burtram increased the dosage of the poison and fears Kathryn might die even before the wedding.
After Kathryn did put on her wedding dress she nearly passes out in front of Warren and his friends. Dr. Stuart says she is just exhausted, but Hank recognized a bluish tinge around the edges of Kathryn’s lips – something Dr. Stuart should have mentioned. Suddenly, Burtram enters the room wearing his Dazzler costume and uses his light powers to bring the X-Men to their knees. However, Cyclops went into cover the second he saw Dazzler and now he hits him with an optic blast. Then Angel takes over and beats his uncle’s face to a bloody pulp. The X-Men restrain Angel from killing Burtram and Jean shuts down the power of their opponent. Afterwards they confront Dr. Stuart who outs himself as just another mutant hater. Sadly, Warren’s mother will die soon. So Warren shows his mother his wings and carries her into the sky until she breathes her last breath …
