Attack on John Healy

I gave up his name. You don't do that. Not to him.John Healy to Masked Man

The Attack on John Healy was a confrontation between Masked Man and John Healy that resulted in the latter confessing that he had been working for Wilson Fisk.

Background

We've been leaving a trail of bodies lately, and trails eventually lead somewhere. This needed to be handled quietly, within the confines of the law."
"So you hire a couple of back-door shysters? I know a hundred defense attorneys with more experience than Heckle and Jeckle."
"It's not their experience that matters. They just opened shop and they're completely clean. Say that about any of the other hundred you know? Two lawyers above reproach. Self-defense. No questions, no trail.James Wesley and Leland Owlsley

In order to increase their Steel Serpent distribution network, Wilson Fisk and James Wesley negotiated with Prohaszka on selling his Kitchen Cab holdings to Veles Taxi, ran by the Russian Mafia. Prohaszka repeatedly refused to play ball, so Fisk and Wesley decided that it was the dead end and hired John Healy to kill him. Healy confronted Prohaszka at Whitestone Lanes while he was having a private bowling game, and Prohaszka immediately ordered his men to throw Healy out. Healy easily subdued both men and pulled out a gun that he purchased from Turk Barrett earlier, pointing it at Prohaszka but the gun jammed despite Barrett's guarantee.

But even without a gun, Healy was able to murder Prohaszka by crushing his head with a bowling ball and hid the gun before the New York City Police Department arrived and apprehended Healy. Fisk knew that they had been leaving a trail of bodies lately and in the wake of the Union Allied Construction scandal, they needed to resolve the situation quietly, within the law. He had Wesley approaching Nelson and Murdock, a freshly opened law firm with a clean record, their involvement would ensure that nobody would look into Healy's case deeper than necessary. On the behalf of Confederated Global Investments, Wesley handed them an advance check and offered them to take on Healy's defense, although Matt Murdock was wary of the whole situation.

Murdock and Foggy Nelson arrived at 15th Precinct Police Station and Healy claimed that he was acting in self-defense, while also insisting on proceeding with the trial immediately. As Nelson and Murdock were working on building their case, Murdock noticed that one of the jurors was unusually nervous and suspected a foul play. As the Masked Man, he tailed the juror that night and found out that she was being blackmailed by Oscar. The Masked Man attacked Oscar and demanded him to destroy the blackmail he had on the juror, but Oscar claimed that it would not make a difference. As he also refused to give away the name of his employer, the Masked Man told Oscar to make sure that the juror resigns and recommended him to leave New York City while he still can.

On the next day, after Murdock's closing statement, the jury ultimately failed to reach an agreement on Healy's verdict. Nelson was concerned that the prosecution might request a retrial, but Murdock knew that it would not happen, sensing Wesley at the courtroom. Murdock was certain that the foreperson was also being blackmailed and Healy congratulated Murdock on the speech he gave on his defense, as he knew exactly how the trial was going to get.[4]

Attack

I want a name!"
"Oh, God! Fisk! Wilson Fisk!Masked Man and John Healy

Walking out of the New York State Supreme Court Building, John Healy approached his car but suddenly noticed the Masked Man jumping in for an attack, dodging at the last moment. Healy was able to throw him on the ground and kick him down, but the Masked Man managed to throw him off balance and get up on his feet. The two continued exchanging blow for blow, but the Masked Man's superior martial artist skills allowed him to overpower Healy and bring him down. Healy then reached for a metal pipe to use it as a weapon, but the Masked Man sensed his movements and was able to dodge and counter his attacks, overwhelming Healy with his blows. Although disarmed, Healy managed to free himself from the Masked Man's grip and caught him in a headlock, trying to impale him on a metal fence, but the Masked Man freed himself and subdued Healy again.

He was not ready to give up just yet and tried attacking the Masked Man with a shard of glass, but the Masked Man overwhelmed him and pinned him on the ground, turning the shard on Healy. The Masked Man demanded him to give up his employer's name but as Healy refused to speak, the Masked Man proceeded to dig the shard into his shoulder, causing Healy immense pain. Unable to withstand the torture, Healy eventually broke down and admitted that he had been working for Wilson Fisk. The Masked Man let go and told Healy to leave New York City, but Healy replied that now that he gave up Fisk's name, every person who was ever dear to him was no in grave danger. Conceited to his demise, Healy chose to commit suicide by impaling himself on a metal fence, to the Masked Man's horror.[4]

Aftermath

Do you know what he was asking? This fool who laid hands on my brother?"
"Not my concern."
"It should be. He was asking about your employer, by name.Vladimir Ranskahov and James Wesley

With the vital information at his disposal, the Masked Man proceeded to hunt down every Russian Mafia member he could get to and interrogate them about Wilson Fisk. Anatoly Ranskahov who had a very close run-in with the vigilante spoke up to James Wesley with Vladimir Ranskahov, informing him that the Masked Man knew Fisk's name. Wesley noted that the situation was extremely problematic, as the Masked Man is running around New York City and pressing on every Russian Mafia member he could find. Wesley offered the Ranskahov brothers to lend a helping hand to their business, and while Anatoly was interested, Vladimir claimed that they would not tolerate Fisk taking over their operations and claimed that they would find the Masked Man on their own.[5]
