Chthon is a demonic entity who prophesied the existence of Scarlet Witch and carved his knowledge onto the walls of the Darkhold Castle atop Mount Wundagore, which was transcribed into the Darkhold.
Biography
Author of the Darkhold
In ancient times, the dark entity Chthon constructed a temple atop Mount Wundagore on Earth. There, Chthon scribed the first Darkhold into its walls. The temple, as well as serving as an origin for the Darkhold, was a throne for the prophesied Scarlet Witch, which Chthon documented in the Darkhold, complete with engravings of the figure into the temple wall. He also installed a statue of Billy Maximoff, who was prophesied to have similar powers as Scarlet Witch. Chthon also installed the Elder Beasts, who were monstrous guards to protect the temple from unwanted trespassers. After the temple's creation, a version of the Darkhold would be made into a book form.[1]
Legacy
Myth of the Scarlet Witch
In 2024, when traveling to Mount Wundagore, Wong told Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, that Chthon was the original creator of the Darkhold. Maximoff then deduced that she was the Scarlet Witch that Chthon had prophesied in his writings. However, once Maximoff realized the destruction she had caused with the power of the Darkhold, she ultimately destroyed the temple, as well as eradicating every copy of the Darkhold in the Multiverse, so no one would be tempted by Chthon's teachings again.[1]
