Rex Quinn's father left when he was young, and Quinn never saw him since. Before nine years old, Quinn was with his friend, Paulie, whose older brother showed him pornographic material. Disgusted, Quinn went outside to play hockey.[1]
Meeting Pete Castiglione

Quinn arrived at Beth Quinn's house earlier than expected after spending time at his grandmother's house, since someone close to his grandmother fell over. She gave the Rex the key and told him not to wake his mother, so he played his toy trucks. Rex met a man who introduced himself as Pete Castiglione. Rex asked his mother who Castiglione was, and Castiglione mentioned that he was a fan of the New York Rangers, a hockey team that Rex did not like.
Rex complained to his mother about the lack of food in the house, so Castiglione took them to Donatello's, where Rex ordered pancakes and put on an exorbitant amount of syrup. Noticing the dynamic between his mother and Castiglione, he asked if the two were getting married. He then further asked if the two had had sex. Rex mentioned the incident with Paulie, and Beth said they would talk about the conversation later. Rex was with his mother when Beth drove Castiglione to his Good Rest Motel, and said goodbye to him.[1]
