Altabury Heights (アルタブリー, Arutaburii)? is the capital city of the Principality of Montario.
Details
It was a mainland mustari settlement that was converted by the church into a holy sanctuary for sanctism a decade ago. The floating "Holy Rock" has been said to have been created by god with his own hands.
For the second contest of the tournament, Sanctifex Forden and Monk Captain Gideaux, being confident that they will turn Euchronia into a theocratic state and to compensate for the reputation losses caused by Sanctoress Joanna's execution, demanded that participants of the Tournament for the Throne were to plunder pagan relics and hand them over to the church during the festival in the Montario Opera House in order to show the church's supremacy to all of Euchronia. The protagonist and Louis take advantage of this to go to Virga Island to obtain Drakodios, a relic said to be able to bypass the king's election magic and slay any candidate. Louis wants to use the weapon to assassinate Forden, while the protagonist wants to use it to assassinate the count in order to free the prince from his curse.
After obtaining Drakodios, the party enters the opera house during the festival to initiate a plan to assassinate Louis. First, they would forge a fake Drakodios to trick Louis and give it to him. Then, the protagonist and Eupha would infiltrate through the ceiling of the opera house wielding the real Drakodios. As the protagonist is un_targetable due to his popularity, any enemies around the opera house (mostly consisting of Sanctist guards) will _target Eupha. Once the party reunites at the top floor of the opera house and Junah sings for the audience, the protagonist will attempt to assassinate Louis with Drakodios, only for it to fail. Eupha also cannot telepathically retrieve the weapon. Louis then goes atop the roof to confront the party, where they challenge him to a battle. The party wins, and despite Louis scraping blood by the protagonist's neck, Eupha telepathically lifts Drakodios and stabs him in the chest, seemingly killing him. With Louis' body crashing down to the floor, Forden congratulates the party for killing off the rebel and congratulates Hulkenberg for almost foiling the assassin by striking them on their back. He then confiscates Drakodios, as it is a sacred relic.
Despite seemingly killing the supposed assassin, the curse did not falter. This leads to the party suspecting that it was someone else who did it. Hulkenberg suspects that it was Forden, as she never told anyone about failing to stop the assassin out of shame and nobody else other than the culprit would know about it. This leads to the party changing their _target to Forden.
On the next day, with Louis' seeming death, Forden holds a speech essentially bragging to the public that he will win the tournament in no time. The party sneaks behind the stage before going open to confront him. Forden brushes their words off and declares them to be traitors, with the audience, who did not know of his treachery beforehand, standing in support for him and calling for the party to be executed. Before any violent confrontation between the party and Forden can happen however, Louis sneaks up to Forden from backstage masquerading as a Sanctist to assassinate him. Forden tries to strike Louis with Drakodios, only for him to be restrained by the king's magic. The treacherous sanctifex was then promptly slain by Louis, who has the real Drakodios. The shocking turn of events forced the festival to cancel.
Louis' aide Cirsium Zorba was also revealed to have survived the Regalith Grand Cathedral encounter. The party did not actually kill Louis and the spear barely missed his heart, and Zorba, masqueraing as a Sanctist, retrieved Louis' body and completely resurrected him. Zorba was also masquerading as a Sanctist church attendant for some time, so he was able to sneak directly into Forden's private quarters and swap the real Drakodios with the fake. Louis then confronts the party about the reason why they would assassinate him, but realized the fact that the party's actions means that the prince is still alive somewhere, so he asks the party for answers for his location. When the party did not respond, he tries to kill a family of innocent Sanctists that escaped too late by launching a beam from Drakodios only for Basilio and Fidelio Magnus to block their boss' attack. Fidelio perished to save Basilio, and the latter left out of disgust. Zorba gloats about Fidelio's death, but Louis remains silent before he and Zorba take their leave. It was by this time that Gideaux ordered the execution of the party who were wrongfully accused of slaying Forden, so they were forced to leave the opera as well. Basilio awakens his Archetype the Berserker afterwards.
The loss of Forden proves to be a devastating blow against the church's plan to consolidate power for itself. In response to his death, the remaining Sanctist senators who once worked under him appointed Saintess Rella as their own new candidate and pawn to replace Forden. This heavily backfired, as Rella's confessed Forden's crimes in front of her followers and committed suicide to free the prince from his curse immediately right after, and the Sanctist Church was neutralized as a political front.
Following the incident, Rudolf and Loveless will appear in-town and can be challenged by the protagonist to a battle upon their gauntlet runners. Milo will also appear and can be challenged after defeating Loveless, being the one who manipulated Loveless into turning against the protagonist to take out two birds with one stone.
