Archaeological expedition

An archaeological expedition was an expedition undertaken by archaeologists for the purpose of studying ruins and other material remains of previous times.

For the 2367 symposium of the Federation Archaeology Council, Jean-Luc Picard had examined the findings of every archaeological expedition ever conducted on the surface of Tagus III. (TNG: "Qpid")

In 2369, Professor Galen asked Picard to join him for an archaeological expedition following the trace of the Progenitors. (TNG: "The Chase")

In 2375, the USS Enterprise-E was supposed to perform an archaeological expedition to Hanoran II before the onset of the monsoon season. However, instead Starfleet ordered them to mediate a territorial dispute in the Goren system. (Star Trek: Insurrection)
