An attack vessel, assault vessel, or assault ship was a type of warship, typically of the same type as a cruiser or destroyer. The term attack cruiser was applied specifically to the Klingon Vor'cha-class attack cruiser.

When telling Captain Wainwright about a fictional Ferengi invasion of Earth in 1947, Nog claimed 300 Marauder-class attack cruisers, manned with Klingon shock troops, were in orbit of Earth. (DS9: "Little Green Men")

In 2365, Ferengi D'Kora-class warships were referred to as "attack vessels." (TNG: "Peak Performance")

The Klingon Vor'cha-class was referred to as an attack cruiser. (TNG: "Reunion", "The Mind's Eye", "The Chase"; DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")

In addition, the Vor'cha has also been identified as a battle cruiser and cruiser.

Lysian destroyers were identified as "a short range attack vessel." (TNG: "Conundrum")

In 2370, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Gul Dukat observed a Federation merchant vessel under attack by two Cardassian attack vessels just inside the Demilitarized Zone. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part I")

In early 2371, the Bajoran Militia utilized Bajoran assault vessels (or assault ships) during their assault forces attempted capture of Deep Space 9. (DS9: "The Circle", "The Siege")

In 2374, during the Dominion War, General Martok sent three attack cruisers to fortify the Dorala system's defense perimeter. (DS9: "The Reckoning")

For a time in early 2375, the Dominion requested that the production of assault ships being constructed at the Monac shipyard be increased by fifteen percent in order to retake the Chin'toka system. This request did not come to fruition, however, as the shipyard and a large fleet of ships, consisting of Jem'Hadar battle cruisers and Galor-class warships under construction there, were destroyed by a solar fusion eruption caused by the Monac sun. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols")

The Hierarchy operated survey ships that were identified as Assault-class assault vessels. (VOY: "Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy")

In the anti-time future, Negh'Var warships were referred to as "attack cruisers" by Governor Worf. (TNG: "All Good Things...")
