Galileo (2259)

The Galileo was a Stamets-type Federation shuttlecraft in service to Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. It was attached to the USS Enterprise, with the number 7.

In 2259, when the Enterprise needed to prevent the comet C/2260-Quentin from colliding with Persephone III without alerting the Shepherds, it surreptitiously launched the Galileo, piloted by Lieutenant Spock, while maneuvering close to the comet. Spock proceeded to set the shuttle's deflector shields to radiate heat, causing a large amount of sublimation on the comet's surface that altered its course. (SNW: "Children of the Comet")

Later that year, Lieutenants Spock and La'an Noonien-Singh took the Galileo to gather intelligence on Gorn vessels hunting the Enterprise inside a brown dwarf in the Finibus system. They observed a Gorn hunter and destroyer communicating with patterns of lights, which Noonien-Singh recognized as a code that her brother Manu had previously deciphered. With this knowledge, she used the shuttle's phasers to signal the destroyer that the hunter had been boarded by Humans, tricking it into firing on the smaller ship. (SNW: "Memento Mori")

The Galileo and the Cervantes transported an Enterprise landing party to the crash site of the USS Peregrine on Valeo Beta V. (SNW: "All Those Who Wander")
