Marl Young

Marl Young (29 January 191729 April 2009; age 92) was a pianist, keyboard player and later music director, who played the harpsichord in the song "Beyond Antares", recorded for the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Conscience of the King" (the song was written by Wilbur Hatch and had lyrics by Gene L. Coon). (The World of Star Trek, p. 114)

Young had a long collaboration with Lucille Ball and Desilu. He frequently worked as a pianist and arranger for The Lucy Show, and after the death of Hatch, he became the music director of Here's Lucy. Young was the first African American to serve as a music director for a major US television network.
