Sisko discovered that the wormhole aliens had no concept of linear time and thus considered his presence disruptive. He tried to explain the concepts of past, present, and future, via the memories of his life. He further explained that Humans had choices and these choices shaped future events, without prior knowledge of the actual outcome.
He used baseball as an example, though the batter believed that baseball showed Humans to be adversarial and aggressive. Sisko then explained that it was just a game. (DS9: "Emissary")
This prophet was played by Kevin McDermott. He was credited as "Alien Batter", and scripted as "Batter Alien".
In an early draft of the script, the character was to have been Ty Cobb, although this was changed to being an unnamed Chicago Cubs batter to avoid rights payments. (The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine [page number? • edit]) The novelization of Emissary retained the batter as being Cobb.

The alien believed that Sisko was deceiving them.
The alien brought him back to the time of Jennifer's death and told him he existed there. Sisko confessed he never got over losing her. The alien helped Sisko realize that Jennifer was gone and he had to let her go and leave the trauma of his wife's death behind him. (DS9: "Emissary")
