Sheila McCarthy (born 1 January 1956; age 69) is the Canadian actress who played Amesha in the Star Trek: Discovery second season episode "New Eden".
McCarthy is probably best known for her starring role in I've Heard the Mermaids Singing (1987), and her role as reporter Samantha Coleman in Die Hard 2 (1990, featured William Sadler, Colm Meaney, and Robert Costanzo, and edited by Stuart Baird).
She also appeared in films such as The Day After Tomorrow (2004, with Tamlyn Tomita, Kenneth Welsh, Mimi Kuzyk, and Aaron Lustig), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004, with Alison Pill and Carol Kane), Being Julia (2004, with Bruce Greenwood), Bailey's Billion$ (2005, with Kenneth Welsh), and Women Talking (2022).
On television, McCarthy starred in Emily of New Moon (1998-2003, with Stephen McHattie) and Little Mosque on the Prairie (2007-2012, with Derek McGrath and Jim Chad).
