The USS Archer (NCC-627) was a Federation Archer-type starship operated by Starfleet during the 23rd century.
In 2259, the Archer, crewed by Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley and astrophysicists Lieutenant Key and Ensign Hadad, was assigned to conduct a first contact mission on Kiley 279. Unaware that the warp signature previously detected by the Federation in fact came from a warp bomb, the crew beamed to the surface and were captured by the native Kiley. The USS Enterprise subsequently arrived at the planet and found the empty Archer in orbit. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds")
Later that year, the Archer was docked at Starbase 1 alongside the USS Enterprise. (SNW: "The Broken Circle")

Background information
Like its successors, the Archer was presumably named for Jonathan Archer.
For the ship's appearance in "The Broken Circle", red stripes and black text were added to the nacelle.
