Alaska is a region of the North American continent on the planet Earth, with boundaries that were created as the area was settled as a geopolitical subdivision of the United States of America nation.
History
During the Eugenics Wars, the state was almost abandoned. In the purges that followed, several hundred offspring of Khan Noonien Singh's augmented followers secretly resettled areas like Alaska, Mars, Luna, and the Sahara Reclamation Zone, where life was hard enough to ensure few people asked probing questions. By the 2300s their descendants had completely rejoined the 'normal' human population, resulting in many Alaskans having Augment ancestry. (TNG novel: Infiltrator)
In the 23rd century, Starfleet maintained a base near the city of Juneau in Alaska. When the Cetacean Probe visited Earth in 2286, the base at Juneau was one of many across the planet to be disabled by the probe's transmissions. (TOS novelization: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
In 2335, William T. Riker, son of Betty and Kyle Riker, was born in Valdez, Alaska. Among his friends during his time in Alaska were Jackson Carter (TNG novel: A Rock and a Hard Place), Teller Conlon (TNG novel: Fortune's Light), and Lyrinda Halk. (TNG comic: "Thin Ice")
In 2349, the Great Alaskan Earthquake caused untold damage to many towns and cities across the state and would be remembered for years. (TNG novel: Q-Space)
Starfleet Lieutenant (j.g.) Kara Bain and her father, K.E. Bain, shared a home in Juneau, Alaska. (SCE episode: "Breakdowns")
Benjamin Sisko had visited Alaska in the summer prior to 2372. While there, he saw the Aurora Borealis. (DS9 novel: Saratoga)
Valdez was also the setting for Will Riker's wedding to Deanna Troi in 2379. (TNG movie: Nemesis)
A number of United Earth and Federation starships have borne the name
after this region, including one that was prototype of the Alaska-class.
Kelvin timeline
According to Khan Noonien Singh, Augment Dictator Alexander Newton annexed the United States, Canada Central America and the Caribbean into the North American Coalition on 17 September 1992. By 1996, Augment infighting led to nuclear war that turned Canada and the United States into the Great North Wastelands, with Newton's remaining territories along with conquests in South America forming the New American Empire until the Augment dictatorships were overthrown. (TOS - Khan comic: "Issue 3"). (TOS - Khan comics: "Issue 2", "Issue 3")
