James Edward Wedgewood was a 23rd century Human man who served as Chief Geologist of the colony on Sheridan's World.
Biography
Wedgewood was born in Devonshire, England, in the mid-2230s. He applied to Starfleet Academy, but was rejected. Regardless, he became an authority on geology, planetary science, value estimation, and mining. He also gained professional-level training in marksmanship, unarmed combat, and commerce. He took qualified-level training in computer operations, administration, and small equipment systems technology. He knew basic theories related to planetary survival, leadership, and ground vehicle operations. He was proficient and pleasant, but could be overwhelmed by greed, and harbored negative feelings for Starfleet.
He was hired as a geologist at the mining firm Intersystems Extraction, Inc., which operated in the Triangle sector, where he met and became friends with Thadeus MacDonald. At some point, he lost his left eye, and began wearing an eye patch.
In 2268, when MacDonald became co-director of the Sheridan's World colonial initiative, he recommended Wedgewood to be their Chief Geologist. The initiative's coordinator, Sean Sheridan, wooded Wedgewood away from Intersystems Extraction with a sizable sum.
About five years after settling on the planet, Wedgewood discovered a dilithium vein under the Kexor Grotto, and started amassing a secret cache of the crystals. About seven years later, Klingon settler
found out about it, and agreed to split the proceeds in exchange for supporting the colony's independence.
In 2283, citizens were invited to vote on the colony's future. Wedgewood steadfastly supported the continued neutrality of Sheridan's World. If forced to choose an alliance, he was more likely to desire the colony go under Federation control rather than join the Klingon Empire. (FASA RPG module: Conflict of Interests)
