History and specifics
The Jizo vicinity was in neutral space unclaimed by major governments by the 23rd century in the Kelvin timeline, and the only notable known nearby system was Altamid system in the Necro Cloud. Mycelium spores could be obtained by mining in this system. (ST video game: Fleet Command)
