Magnetopause

A magnetopause is an area of space near a planet or other body that is the boundary of the body's magnetic field.

History and specifics

In the year 2369, the Federation runabout USS Orinoco passed through the magnetopause of a planet in the Gamma Quadrant after leaving the world's surface. The magnetopause interfered with the engines of the runabout, and Jadzia Dax thought that the engines had not been properly shielded against it. (DS9 comic: "Field Trip")
