The Mulciber-class was a type of Federation starship in Starfleet service during the late 24th century. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
History and specifications
The Mulciber-class of ships had entered service by the year 2381. Their triangular saucer section was directly attached to a long, rectangular engineering hull. Vessels of the class sported large bay doors on multiple levels. Two nacelles emerged from the rear section.
Bridge, medical facilities and crew quarters were standard issue. In addition, there were six auxiliary shuttlebays and at least on sub-bay on deck nine. The Mulciber-class also featured industrial capabilities, including five replicators large enough to manufacture parts and technology usually reserved to starbases and colony ships. Non-replicatable materiel like benamite crystals and bio-neural circuitry were stored in the two largest cargo holds. Lighting in those areas was dimmed to conserve power.
One ship of this class was assigned to Project Full Circle's Voyager fleet and refitted with quantum slipstream drive in 2381. At least the Achilles stored enough attack fighters to more than triple the fleet in case of emergency. Several special operations pilots to crew them were aboard. Fleet commander Afsarah Eden intended to use them as a last resort. Their existence was classified until the loss of USS Planck.
The Achilles utilized its industrial capabilities during the repair of the USS Quirinal. (VOY novel: Children of the Storm)
