Pardek

Pardek was a male Romulan who lived during the 23rd and 24th centuries.

History

Pardek had begun his career in the 2260s, and was a member of the Romulan Senate for over 90 years.

In 2293, Pardek participated in the Khitomer Conference as a member of the Romulan delegation to the conference. After Ambassador Nanclus was exposed and arrested for conspiring with General Chang, Admiral Cartwright, and Colonel Patrick West to derail the peace process, Pardek remained as the Romulan representative to the conference. (TOS novelization: The Undiscovered Country)

Subaltern Kimara Cretak (later a Senator herself) was Pardek's aide at the Khitomer Conference. (TLE novel: Catalyst of Sorrows)

At the conference, Pardek became acquainted with Captain Spock, and maintained a dialog with him until the mid 24th century. (TNG episode: "Unification") They were introduced by Spock's father Sarek. (TOS novel: Assignment: Eternity) During these years, Pardek built a reputation as a "man of the people" who actually listened to the people he represented in the Krocton Segment of Romulus, and as an advocate of peace. Romulan leadership, at least officially, viewed him as a radical because of his political positions. (TNG episode: "Unification")

In 2364, Pardek and Spock met in a secret conference held between the Federation, Romulan Star Empire, Klingon Empire and the Cardassian Union on an asteroid at the Romulan Neutral Zone. They discussed the unknown threat (which turned out to have been the Borg Collective) that destroyed the border outposts. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Exodus)

In 2368, Pardek participated in a Romulan plan to invade the Federation member world Vulcan. He lured Spock to Romulus, telling Spock that the new Proconsul Neral would be open to negotiations to reunify the Vulcan and Romulan peoples. Pardek led Romulan forces to the caves where Spock, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data were hiding. Spock realized that Pardek betrayed them and the other Romulans seeking reunification. Spock, Picard, and Data were taken into custody, but the three men were able to escape and communicate the Romulan's real intentions to Starfleet, of which the USS Enterprise-D intercepted the invasion fleet. (TNG episode: "Unification")

In 2374, Tal Shiar Chairman Koval invaded Pardek's home, threatened the lives of and later killed his wife Tai'lun and daughter Talkath. (TTN novel: Taking Wing)

Pardek continued to serve in Romulan government. He survived the Reman Shinzon's assassination of the Senate, but in 2380 he was killed in the Hall of State's library by Tal Shiar member Torath at the behest of Director Rehaek. (TTN novel: Taking Wing)

Despite Pardek's death, several Senators continued to support his pro-military stance, such as Senator Mathon Tenv. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)
