The Royal Sovereign-class was a type of Federation class XV battlecruiser starship in Starfleet service in the 24th century, becoming active on reference stardate 2/7701.
Service History
The Royal Sovereign vessels crewed 850, with space to carry 125 Starfleet Marines. Additionally, the Royal Sovereign could carry 30,000 metric tons of cargo, rated at 600 SCU (standard cargo units). Unloaded, the Royal Sovereign vessels weighed 334,825 metric tons and measured 625 meters in length, 224 meters in width and 100 meters in height.
The Royal Sovereign computers were of the M-9A type, and the vessels were loaded with six standard (6 person) personnel transporters, four 12 person transporters and six cargo transport stages (4 of them small scale, 2 of them large scale). There were also 8 Federation shuttlecraft standard to these vessels' shuttlebays. These vessels were designed as an outgrowth of the Excelsior-class battleship mission profile, but have been proven as exploratory vessels also.
The Royal Sovereign warp engines were FTWA-2 type, rated to cruise at warp factor 12 and max out at warp factor 14 (old scale measurement). The impulse engines were of the FIG-2 type, and Royal Sovereigns had 10 FH-11 phaser emitters, in five dual-mounted phaser banks, with four forward arcs of fire and two arcs of fire for every other direction. The vessels had 8 FP-4 launcher weapons, and were defended by FSS model deflector shields. The shields were raised by a new successful shielding device known as the quadro-transducer shielding system.
By the last half of the 24th century, the Royal Sovereign was still in service, with 11 vessels having been built between stardates 2/7701 and 2/9812. By 2364, three vessels were lost, and new vessels of the class were being produced at Salazaar Shipyards. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
