Spartacus

Spartacus (c. 109 BCE-71 BCE) was a Roman slave and gladiator, who once led a revolt against the Roman Empire on Earth. For two years Spartacus and his followers held out against numerous Roman legions until they were eventually overcome, captured and eventually crucified for their actions. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Quarantine)

In 2371 the name Spartacus was used by the Maquis to rechristen Captain Chakotay's Peregrine-class fighter. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Quarantine)

The renegade Velman androids renamed themselves the Spartacans, having been inspired by the ancient Roman gladiator in his quest for freedom. (TNG novel: Spartacus)
