Background
- The mass market paperback reprint of this volume (along with the reprint of Strange New Worlds II) included Chapter Six of the serialised novel Starfleet: Year One by Michael Jan Friedman, a last-minute change following delays to the novels originally planned to carry that chapter. Editor John J. Ordover offered to mail out the chapter to anyone angered by the need to repurchase a Strange New Worlds volume specifically for it.
