Tekton was a Romulan-controlled planet located in the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. It was the homeworld of intelligent gorilla-like Tektonians.
History and specifics
Tekton was a class M planet with a blue sky and orange clouds, as well as dense jungles, grass, bushes, rocky hills and mountains. It also had active volcanoes and pools of lava.
By the 23rd century, a city-sized Romulan outpost had been established on a large grassy plain between jungle and mountainous regions.
In the 2260s, Starfleet records of the planet were incomplete, stating that it lacked native intelligent life.
In 2267, a mysterious spacecraft from Tekton lured away and kidnapped Perithees Alliance Ambassador Sork, Ensign Pavel Chekov and two crewmen from the starship USS Enterprise. The vessel landed at the outpost, and its four captives were secured in a prison.
The Enterprise sneaked into high orbit of Tekton, using a mass-nullifer to disguise its presence, and then launched a tele-probe to scan the surface. James T. Kirk and Spock beamed down, but the transporter inadvertently locked onto a volcano instead of the spacecraft engine's heat, and Montgomery Scott hastily redirected the beam into a jungle. Natives led Kirk and Spock back to the base in exchange for blowing it up.
Attempting to derail relations between the Federation and the Alliance, the outpost's commander booby trapped a transport, then let the prisoners escape. But the plan backfired, as the escapees rigged the transport to destroy the outpost, then beamed safely back to the Enterprise. Sork was now determined to sign a treaty.
