Lwaxana Troi and several other Federation ambassadors visit the station; a probe from the Gamma Quadrant infects Deep Space 9's computers with a sentient lifeform.
Summary
Four Federation ambassadors are visiting Deep Space 9 - Taxco of Arbaza, Vadosia of Bolarus, Lojal of Vulcan and Lwaxana Troi of Betazed. Commander Sisko assigns Dr. Bashir to handle the four who prove to be challenging. Ambassador Troi loses a brooch in Quark’s and as she cannot telepathically read any guilt from any of the customers, a member of a race who Betazoids cannot read must be responsible. Odo rules out Quark, but notices a Dopterian in the bar, who is the culprit. Troi is extremely impressed with Odo and visits his security office to strike up a romantic relationship.
A probe comes through the wormhole which the crew plan to study. Lwaxana follows Odo into a turbolift, but when it malfunctions, the pair are trapped together. O’Brien is unable to find a cause and notes that the Cardassian computer is oddly helpful for a change. Malfunctions on the station seem to be to get O’Brien’s attention like a puppy.
Hours pass, and Odo is approaching having to revert to his liquid form. He is embarrassed by this, as he slowly loses his humanoid form. Lwaxana holds out her skirt and Odo pools into it. The entity causes an explosion in the habitat ring and the crew is forced to fight it manually. Lojal, Vadosia and Taxco are saved by being killed by the quick thinking of Dr. Bashir.
O’Brien builds a digital doghouse for “Pup” and once it is moved, control of station systems is reestablished. Odo thanks Troi for her help and her discretion when they leave the turbolift.
