York III was a planet, the third planet of the Hoffman system, located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. It was a Federation world, a former home of Harry Mudd.
History and specifics
York III had blue and white clouds.
In the 23rd century, the identity bureau on York III allowed any person without a criminal record to purchase a new identity. Once finalized, only evidence of a prior felony would be enough to warrant releasing the new name. (TOS novel: Mudd in Your Eye)
In the early 2260s, Harry and Stella Mudd shared a residence together on the planet. (TOS - Mudd's Angels short story: "The Business, As Usual, During Altercations")
In 2265, after inheriting an ex-husband's estate, Stella purchased a new identity and a hotel on York III. (TOS novel: Mudd in Your Eye)
In 2268, after Harry Mudd reluctantly provided Stella's location, the USS Enterprise orbited York III in order to find Stella and bring her to Distrel for a medical emergency. Leonard McCoy spoke with the head of the identity bureau. (TOS novel: Mudd in Your Eye)
In an alternate series of events in 2270, an apprehended Mudd was permitted to return home while legal action was being considered. McCoy suggested he be taken to Stella, though Harry only provided the coordinates when hypnotized. James T. Kirk, McCoy, Yeoman Weinberg and two security guards escorted Harry to the residence. However, the landing party was ordered to leave and threatened with a shotgun by Stella Mudd's mother, so they hastily retreated, and Mudd was taken to Mudd's planet instead. (TOS - Mudd's Angels short story: "The Business, As Usual, During Altercations")
- The planet was named in the novel but not in the short story. In the absence of conflicting information, they were assumed to be the same planet for purposes of this wiki.
