Help needed enabling gadgets on banwiki
Users at the new Balinese Wikipedia (created a couple of weeks ago) want some gadgets enabled on their wiki. They currently have none to choose from. I don't know what the standard procedure is for making such requests, but apparently an interface editor is required. I know some of those frequent this page, so could someone who can help with this request please comment at ban:Wikipédia:Pasangkepan#Final steps making this a working standalone wiki? (Note that the wiki doesn't yet have any admins, bureaucrats, interface editors, or stewards.) - dcljr (talk) 08:05, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Dcljr:Apparently the Gadget plugin is not installed in your wiki, please contact a system administrators to install the plugin. I have create the js Files and the Gadget-defintion.--WikiBayer 👤💬 10:15, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Clean up of bad gadgets in small wikis
Lots of small wikis copy MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition of large wikis into their own while most of gadgets don't even have a javscript page. I wrote a script and found phab:P9486 which is 400 bad gadgets in impressive number of wikis. Can these gadgets removed from the defition page? Similar to this. This would help performance of these wikis. If it's too much work, I can have a temporally interface admin right and do it by bot. Amir (talk) 12:55, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

- @Billinghurst:So far I only repaired the gadget HotCat.The other gadgets I've just removed.
- In projects such as ur.wikiquote are too many gadget-definition gadgets in there to fix them all.
- The projects have only a broken gadget definition because a single admin has played with copy and paste here, if the project wants to have other gadgets they should just make a request in my opinion.--WikiBayer 👤💬 12:51, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Sure, I understand the context, though an admin adding it at a community is as good as community consensus, even when ham-fistedly undertaken. I was also simply saying for these near universal gadgets that sometimes just fix it can work. We are meant to be able to judge a request and undertake what is in the best interests of the community, not solely follow the instruction of one person's request, nor fall back on that as a defence for an action. [Noting that there is nothing wrong with the original request.] — billinghurst sDrewth 22:36, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Harassment : Global request for protection of talk pages
Hello, I've posted several requests for global lock because an idiot keeps harassing me across many wikis--along with a few other sysop / RC patrollers but it seems I'm the main _target. Last night, it happened again : https://fr.wikibooks.org/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:Contributions/Kinndgpou. A few days ago I received about 30 messages from the same dude, across wikis I had never visited. This has to stop. I would like to request my talk pages to be protected on creation on all wikis (autopatrolled), except on the French-speaking and English-speaking projects, please. And even with only the two languages, I don't use the English-speaking Wikibooks, Wikivoyage, wikispecies. This is getting old ! :) Kind regards, --Bédévore (talk) 17:29, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
- On all wikis where there are active administrators you need to ask them. Ruslik (talk) 13:24, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Ruslik0: And on the other of hundreds of projects - this seems like a huge time-sink to manage? — xaosflux Talk 14:51, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Bédévore: We can probably write an abusefilter to assist, though it would only be for small/medium wikis. I would want to see some of the deleted posts, though need to find a wiki where a global sysop can view (frWB is not one). Can you point me to somewhere else for a look-see? — billinghurst sDrewth 04:38, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

- @Bédévore: I have re-created global-181 that will work on global abuse wikis, to function on your root ns:2 and ns:3 pages, and if I did it right I have excluded your frWP user talk page. Noting that global abuse filters apply to small, medium and wmgUseGlobalAbuseFilters additional, incl. frWP, though will not help on the majority of the big wikis. I am going to leave it in watch for a while looking for false positives before escalating its actions. Let us see how it progresses. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:03, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Is it possible to hide references to this username? --Gbawden (talk) 12:44, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Gbawden: usually at SRG with the appropriate use of {{LockHide}}, though obliterating it is always fun, especially if they get into the logs. Depends on what you want to achieve. As it has been blocked at Commons and enWP it is already in your Log/block, presumably in Log/delete, and I am guessing Abuselog, and logs for account lock. Usually the best thing to do with these is quickly get into IRC and get steward to do a quick Lock and hide. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Update whois script on iswiki
Requires javascript rights. There are no interface admins on iswiki.
Update IP-whois gadget by replacing the code at is:Melding:Gadget-IP-whois.js with sv:MediaWiki:Gadget-IP-whois.js and adding "mediawiki.util" to the dependancies of the gadget at is:Melding:Gadgets-definition (since mediawiki has not loaded mw.util by default since 1.27, per mw:Manual:$wgPreloadJavaScriptMwUtil). This gadget works at Special:Contributions pages. Since the messages have changed since the gadget was last updated, more than the IP itself gets copied from the message, making the whois link unusable without fixing it manually. As such, the gadget needs to be updated.. --Snaevar (talk) 00:30, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

The same person has already done so in the past (July 6 2019), this was acted upon by stewards. Useless microstubs on tiwiki
An IP editor has just pushed the Tigrinya Wikipedia (no admins) over 200 articles by creating about 20 microstubs about countries. Each stub's content consists solely of a flag image, the {{PAGETITLE}} magic word (as an ersatz "lead"), a {{stub}} template call, and the local category for "Countries". (I can't say whether the flags and page titles match up, since I don't read the language.) As a bonus, the edit summary for each page creation is a completely irrelevant phrase in all caps styled like a section link (which doesn't exist on the page itself). About half of these things (I just noted about each page) could be seen as evidence of an attempt to create something potentially useful, but the other half (IMO) undermine that presumption. Could a steward take a look and decide whether they should be kept or deleted? - dcljr (talk) 04:54, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
