Mapenzi ya jinsia moja article

Hello Kisare. I have started editing the Mapenzi ya jinsia moja article on Swahili Wikipedia to try to bring it in line with the UCOC. Would you be able to help with this effort? Hi, sorry for the late response. Didn't get any updates on this whole issue for months so I figured it was dead. Glad to see the UC4C is now up and running.

As for that article, it is a lost cause without serious intervention from the UC4C. I have previously attempted to edit that article. All my edits were removed and I was temporarily banned and accused of "ubeberu" (imperialism) among other things, simply for being objective and citing scientific articles including ones written by Africans and African public health organizations. The article on transgender people is even worse. Riccardo is constantly proselytizing about catholicism (he's a catholic missionary originating from Italy) in these articles and citing Breitbart, not exactly a reliable source known for their tolerance of Africans, and then calls me an imperialist. It's ridiculous. There are a small handful of mods, particularly Riccardo, who have managed to force their personal religious/cultural views in swwiki for years on a number of contentious topics. His contributions elsewhere to swwiki are commendable but he seriously does not know how to not push his personal views as the truth when it comes to articles on sensitive issues.

It is a reality that LGBT people have extremely limited acceptance within East Africa. It's a very taboo subject and considered a crime. But I wish my collaborators on swwiki would understand the importance of being objective and not forcing one cultural viewpoint. I mean, enwiki also manages to talk about issues that are culturally sensitive to Americans while remaining objective. There's literally an article called the N-word. So it's not like I'm expecting anything of swwiki that isn't already expected of other wikis.

I'm rambling but I'm just disappointed and frustrated by the whole thing. I want swwiki to be great and professional but it's like none of the admins there actually believe that. Kisare (talk) 14:29, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
