Hi. Isn't your post to Wikimedia Forum about Picture of the Year 2012 a duplicate (or triplicate)? --MZMcBride (talk) 04:18, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, too late today. Reverted. -- Rillke (talk) 04:22, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Fantasy balloon
editHi Rillke, I have made the changes directly on the page, leaving only the cropped version (the text can be added later) and only one of the other stylish logos (the burning snake). Thanks for asking :)--Micru (talk) 13:28, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Moved
editMoved my sandbox and responded at Talk:Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R1/Results/Runoff. :) Thank you again, Rillke, for all you've done. You're amazing. :D I can't imagine how we would have gotten this far without you, truly.
Once we get feedback from the attorneys (they've started their search), I'll open this up for round two of conversation. The final vote should be a lot easier, I hope, since there won't be anywhere near as many options. At most, there will be 9. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 11:39, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, Rillke. :)
The legal review is finished, and I have started Wikivoyage/Logo 2013/Finalist review. I know you may have much better ideas than I do how to make that look good. Please feel free. I'd be silly to stand in your way. :D If you move it, please leave a redirect, as I've linked to it from the various Wikivoyages.
What I can't figure out at all is how to add a link to it to the template. Can you please help with that? I would be very grateful! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 00:35, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Maggie,
- I hope the current layout satisfies your needs. If not, please let me know.
- Changing the header is possible through the layout template. Of course, if a new translation was added, this must be reflected in Template:Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/banner/i18n.
- Best regards -- Rillke (talk) 13:04, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- Oh! A template within a template. It all looks good. Thank you, again, Rillke, for your help. :) Will you be able to help with setting up the final vote when it comes along after this phase of discussion and the next phase of attorney review? It should be much simpler, I think, than the last one (and I'm counting on my tallying being much easier!). --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 13:20, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, a box within a box :-) This has the advantage of separating the translation-related stuff from the layout.
- If my help is still welcome and required, yes. Best -- Rillke (talk) 14:46, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Final vote!
edit- If your help is still welcome and required? :) I don't know what I'd have done without you! I am already grateful but will be even more so if you are able to help out through this part as well. I've just sent the finalists, confirmed by TheHelpfulOne here, to legal. I have requested final approve by no later than 2100 UTC on 21 August so that we can launch by 00:01 22 August as scheduled. I would imagine that you can presume until we hear otherwise and go ahead and set up the page, if you're comfortable with that. Is it possible for you to set the final vote to show the tabs as well as the larger image? That was a stroke of genius. It makes the whole idea that it's a logo so much more obvious. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 23:40, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- I am always envious seeing how well you can phrase compared to me. I am working at Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R2/Gallery and need to tweak the JavaScript so it supports randomization on 2 layers: 1) the groups and 2) the candidates inside each group. This way we keep similar logos together while still being fair and complying with the rules.
- Tomorrow, an administrator will have to give me a hand. Best -- Rillke (talk) 18:22, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Then the envy is mutual. I think what you can do is magic. :D I would love to be able to do stuff like that. I will look for an admin who can help out tomorrow. Is that at time to start the vote, or do you need one sooner? --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Maggie asked me if I'd be available to help but I'm likely to not be available tomorrow evening, so I've done the next best thing and made you a temporary admin here on Meta until the Wikivoyage logo process is complete. Feel free to use the rights as needed for any Wikivoyage logo related work! :-) Thehelpfulone 20:03, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

The balloon logo variants have been disqualified. :( I've told Peter and put a note on the finalist page, and they may choose to mix some of the variant fonts with the original balloon logo, but we'll see. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 23:46, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the notification and for attaching my account to the sysop-group. I already made use of the rights.

Vote closure
editHi, Rillke. Very excited to see how the vote is going to close out. :) Can you do the results the same way you did last time? It was very helpful for me in running the eliminations. The vote closes at midnight UTC, which is obviously quite late for you. If you can get the vote to me tomorrow, that would be fantastic.
I wanted to know if there is something I can do or need to do to shut the vote down tonight, or if we just ignore any votes that come in after the deadline. I'm not sure how this is done. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 17:32, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hehe. So where to continue? Here? Suggest so.
- I would shut the vote down tonight. It's the final and there is not much time to announce the winner. So I would even run the first step of the vote counting script (that that produces the same results pattern as before) and if you like, I can code something that does the IRV-analysis. -- Rillke (talk) 17:38, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- Wow. If you can code something that saves me hours and hours of counting, I would be extremely happy. So, yes, if that's possible, I would like that very much! If it's not, I appreciate your thinking about it. :D Either way, running the first step of the vote counting script tonight if you can would be fantastic, I agree. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 17:51, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
- See you later :) -- Rillke (talk) 17:52, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Here, they are Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R2/Results. Updated script there. I hope that everything was done correctly. If there are questions, don't hesitate to ask me. User:Aiday123456 used an automated translator which unfortunately
- run before the intelliVote
- translated hidden content
therefore their votes ended up on the pages listed here. Since one can unambiguously connect the pages with the one they should go to, I "transferred" the votes to the intended pages after running the counting script. -- Rillke (talk) 08:07, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yay! Thank you, Rillke. That's absolutely fabulous. :) The results look good to me, and incredibly detailed. I'm so grateful to you for putting all this time in. Look for an email from me! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 09:29, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's official. :) The winner is announced everywhere except here (I'll fix that immediately). I imagine you can do something to the banner to link to the results? Thank you again, for everything. You rock. :) --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 21:08, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Help test better mass message delivery
editHi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)
For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)
You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#_target:}}
parser function. For example, {{#_target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}}
or {{#_target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}
. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.
If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Please test the new feature Special:PageMigration
editAs a Google Summer of Code Intern, I have been working on the Mass Migration tools project for Wikimedia. We are now ready with a minimal working product. The tool helps translators and translation administrators import the old translations into the Translate Extension.
An instance of the same has been set up on labs. You can find some useful instructions on the main page.
Please test the tool and report bugs/suggestions using the link provided on the main page itself. You can have a look at the tracking bug to check already reported bugs.
Looking forward to hearing from you! Cheers. BPositive (talk) 14:33, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions
editThe Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.
If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.
I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:18, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
Superprotect letter update
editHi Rillke,
Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.
Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on change.org, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.
I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.
Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.
Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.
Thank you for your engagement on this issue, and please stay in touch. -Pete F (talk) 18:17, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Invitation
editHello, Rillke,
I am contacting you because you have left feedback about VisualEditor at pages like mw:VisualEditor/Feedback in the past. The Editing team is now asking for your help with VisualEditor. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work well for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.
You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.
More information (including a translatable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.
Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:40, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Code review
editHello, I often found your code review invaluable and I think you should have +2 somewhere, to use when you feel like it. :) What repositories would make sense in your opinion, perhaps UploadWizard? Or Multimedia viewer, OOJs? I can file a request for you if you prefer, when I know for which repositories. :) --Nemo 23:09, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolled candidates
editDear Rillke, would it be possible to install your script "possible autopatrolled candidates", (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Requests_for_rights/possible_autopatrolled_candidates) on Wikispecies? regards, Dan Koehl (talk) 11:51, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
- 500 recent changes on Wikispecies spawn over 2 days, are you sure you can't manage it differently? I am currently having trouble ssh-ing into my Toollabs account. Dolphin, the file manager I use only accepts an old cipher that isn't supported by Toollabs anymore. -- Rillke (talk) 17:55, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
- By all means, of course we can, just was curious about if its possible, very sorry for taking your time. Dan Koehl (talk) 20:41, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Dan Koehl: It is possible. But it also means I have to invest about 45 minutes initially and about 3 per month (re-occurring). species:Special:ActiveUsers is less than 200 entries long. If you hide admins and bots, it should be really no issue to process this list. You may even use a small script to sort the list by edit count. -- Rillke (talk) 00:09, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- By all means, of course we can, just was curious about if its possible, very sorry for taking your time. Dan Koehl (talk) 20:41, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
- No problem, and I understand now the work behind this, which I really didnt want to expect from you, I thought that the script could be easy installed on species and we would have a very easy and effective way of sorting out AP candidates. Thanks again for your time. Dan Koehl (talk) 00:18, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Dan Koehl: See species:User:CommonsMaintenanceBot. You may move the page where ever you like to. -- Rillke (talk) 00:05, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed thanks a lot, I saw first now that you had installed the script, I already tried it out, and assigned a user as AP. best regards, Dan Koehl (talk) 20:27, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Inspire Campaign on content curation & review
editI've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.
All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Checking in on your IEG projecct
editHello Rillke,
I've been trying to reach you via email for some time hoping to set up a check-in to get up to date with you on your IEG project. I think I must have an outdated email address. Could you let me know the best way to get a hold of you to set up a time?
Thank you and looking forward to talking!
Warm regards, --Marti (WMF) (talk) 19:30, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Autopatrol candidates on Wikispecies
editDear Rillke, you were kind and made a script at species:User:CommonsMaintenanceBot with the SQL located at expose-data/autopatrolled_candidates.species.sql. Presently it only gives 1 user, who quit editing August 2016, would it be possible to change to > 200 edits instead of >300, in order to present more potential candidates? Kind regards, Dan Koehl (talk) 23:39, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support
editHello. You are receiving this message because you kindly helped with affiliates-related translations in the past. The movement needs you again! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.
A Translation Central is available to help keen translators like you figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome. While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :)
Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:19, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
