In their home era, the Vo'lach had diplomatic contacts with the planet Gendar, leading Virtuoso, Gendarkind's leader, to send a precious urn to them as a gift, without telling them that it was an artefact of the Goddess which opened a secret chamber between her statue. When she wished to recover the notes she'd left in the stash, "the Goddess", really an alias of Auteur's twelfth incarnation, travelled to Vo'lach Prime alongside her co-conspirators, who include Artillo Brinzo as well as another Knight of Sky, a rogue Firmament, and another, unidentified individual.
While on Vo'lach, Auteur and Brinzo decided to betray the other three, whom they no longer needed, and left them for dead. By the time the Vo'lach alerted the rulers of the universe, who sent Sergeant-Instructor Littlejohn, however, the rogue Firmament had clawed his way out of the pit and followed the other two to Gendar, leaving only two bodies for him and the Arbiter of Knives to examine. By the time Bernice Summerfield's expedition found it in the 26th century, the ecosystem had been destroyed and the Vo'lach were extinct, with all possible life being annihilated and kept annihilated by semi-sentient submarines, its seas made into toxic sludge, and profanity burned onto its continents with nuclear weapons.
