Miriam Lafayette, more commonly known as Mimi, is the grandmother of Lunella Lafayette, and is the emotional center of the Lafayette family in the Disney animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.[3]
She is the original Moon Girl.
Biography
Many years ago, Mimi was a scientist with a branch of the space program known as The Enclave, using her skill with coding to create a portal generator that would revolutionize space travel by allowing people to travel across space in an instant. During this time, she went by the code name, Moon Girl. However, on the day the scientists were to present the project to their government superiors, the lead scientist tried to erase the part that Mimi and another black scientist, Dr. Morlak, played in the creation of the portal generator.
Dr. Morlak was easily able to prove the part that he and Moon Girl played as the lead scientist lacked the knowledge to make the machine work. Moon Girl was hesitant because the machine hadn't been tested yet, but Morlak was insistent.
When he turned the machine on, it opened a portal to another dimension and the tentacle-arms of some kind of monster came out of it, grabbing everyone in the room, except for Morlak and Moon Girl, and pulled them through the portal never to be seen again.
Morlak was elated, believing that with a portal across the multiverse, no one would ever be able to erase them, but Moon Girl believed it was too dangerous and that Morlak had lost his mind, so she destroyed the portal, stole the blueprints, and disappeared off the face of the earth.
She later met the man who would become her husband, James Lafayette and started working at his roller rink, Roll With It. She later started a family with him, giving birth to their son James Lafayette Jr., who later married his wife, Adria Lafayette. Eventually, Mimi's granddaughter, Lunella Lafayette, became a superhero and called herself Moon Girl out of admiration to the mysterious scientist whom she idolized, not knowing she was none other than Mimi.

Physical Appearance
Mimi is an average height, with a wider build than most female characters. She has medium-dark skin, and has dark grey toned black hair pulled into a low ponytail with a purple hair tie.
In her youth, she looked the same. Except she looked younger with no wrinkles, and had straight short dark brown hair with brown highlights.
Clothing
Mimi wears a yellow blouse with a light colored collar and sleeves. She also wears black pants, and black flat shoes.
In her youth when she worked as a Space Program scientist, she wore purple glasses, and olive blouse with a light colored collar, a lab coat with the Enclave's symbol on the left sleeve, light pants, and shoes.
Personality
Mimi is a kind and wise grandmother, however, she is also a sassy piece of work who takes no nonsense from no one.

- Culinary Skills: Mimi is the cook of the Lafayette family and runs the snack stand at their roller rink.
- Wisdom: Mimi is a very wise woman, a trait she uses to impart important life lessons that Lunella Lafayette learns from.
- Combat Skills: Mimi was able to fight off an army of robots invading her home with nothing but a bunch of household items.
- Coding: Mimi was once a scientist with the space program. Without her code, the portal generator they were developing would never work.

Trivia
- Mimi is aware that her granddaughter is the new Moon Girl.
- Her awareness of this fact is implied in a number of episodes, but she never said anything about it until OMG Issue Number 1.
- At the end of Coney Island, Baby!, The Beyonder hinted at Mimi having some kind of secret dark past.
- Mimi once attempted to straighten her hair with a heated comb, but it did not get straightened enough, so she turned up the heat. She ended up burning off a chunk of her hair as a result.
- When Mimi was in high school, she and her two best friends, Merle and Matsuye, made up a group known as "The Hot Tomatoes".
- The name came from an unknown incident that Mimi considers embarrassing.
- The three of them came together because they were the only girls in the science program at the time.
