Original publication: It probably was published earlier but appeared in print as early as 1967-68 in G. Hla Maung's "On International and Burmese Painting" published in Burma.
Immediate source: The Burmese art scholar U Min Naing gave the photo to me before his death in 2004.
In the w:#Editing Wikipedia: Media Copyright Questions (section) I enquired about this file and was referred to the following section this section where Burmese copyright law is explained.. Commons states that photographs in Burma are in the public domain "50 years after the date of the making of the original negative from which the photograph was directly or indirectly derived." Because Saya Aye died in 1930, this photograph must be in the Public Domain in Burma.
