The Nori Nori no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to control anything they ride, turning them into a Driving Human (ドライブ人間, Doraibu Ningen?, VIZ: "Driver"). It was eaten by Bluegrass.[1]
Etymology
- Nori (乗り?) is Japanese for "riding" or "ride".
Strengths and Weaknesses
This fruit allows the user to control anything or anyone they take a ride on, mechanical or otherwise, regardless of the _target's own will or anything else influencing them. This can even override the command hierarchy of the Pacifista.[1] This ability can also affect _targets within range of the user's Haki.[2]
Due to the user having to physically ride on top of a _target, the ability is seemingly limited to controlling a single _target at once. Also, the user may be left vulnerable to attacks regardless of the power of the individual they ride. Apart from these, there are no known weaknesses for this fruit besides the usual Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Usage
Bluegrass uses this ability to control powerful individuals, such as a Pacifista Mark III,[1] and a Sea Beast Weapon.[3]
Trivia
- This Devil Fruit is thematically similar to the Kibi Kibi no Mi, the Muchi Muchi no Mi, and the non-canon Peto Peto no Mi, as they are all based on making things obey the user, and it is also similar to the Jake Jake no Mi, as they both grant the ability of controlling someone by being physically on someone.
- This is the first manga-based Devil Fruit to reuse a name from a non-canon fruit: the "Nori Nori no Mi" had previously appeared in the One Piece Premier Show 2021.
- When the fruit's power was first used, Bluegrass said that the fruit turned her into a Driving Human. However, SBS Volume 110 instead explained that the fruit made her a Piloting Human (操縦人間, Sōjū Ningen?).
