Edit-a-thons and Digitization project
Edit-a-thon in Cordoba
At the end of october, Wikimedia Argentina made a Edit-a-thon in Cordoba in the framework of the global initiative around the theme of women architects .
The objective was to improve the content of Wikipedia of women who had no notable architects article in the encyclopedia, with the ultimate aim of tackling the gender gap .

Editing Workshop and Edit-a-thon in MNBA
During the week of November 19, Wikimedia Argentina conducted in conjunction with the
MNBA the first Edit-a-thon
between the two institutions with the aim of improving the number of articles on artists in Wikipedia, and correspond to those representing the stock of 835 imágenes
provided by the institution.
To date, ' 394 images ' are positioned in different items in different Wikipedias .
A quantitative and qualitative level, the results can be summarized as follows:

Editing Workshop and Edit-a-thon in Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo
During the week of November 20 , we held a workshop and editing the institution Edit-a-thon Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo.
Through this initiative Wikimedia Argentina drives one of its main objectives mainstreamed actions GLAM program : the construction of identity and recovery of historical memory.
Following our new project ' Wiki Takes Cultural Institutions ' the last activity edit-a-thon previous work of sensitization and training of cultural references in one of the most influential institutions in Argentina

Digitization project
Wikimedia Argentina continues to work with its 4 main institutions for digitization. During the last month , we work hard with the Academy Argentine of Letterswho through our agreement digitization have freely and free, 89 books
of Argentina literature.

November comes and November goes, Wikimedians stay!
Enriching medicine history on Commons
Wikimedia France signed a new partnership with the Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire Santé, attached to the Paris-Descartes University. The Faculty of Medicine, founded in the thirteenth century, led to collections including 400,000 monographs, 21,000 journal titles, more than 1,000 manuscripts, 500,000 theses ...Pharmacy, biology and cosmetology funds include 100,000 books, theses, pamphlets and laboratory publications and over 4,000 journal titles. As a first step in this partnership, the library decided to upload a collection of more than 4000 portraits of doctors and researchers on Wikimedia Commons. The upload should start on the 1st quarter 2016 and will be done thanks to a tool developed by EdouardHue, entitled "ComeOn !"
WLM 2015 award ceremony at the heart of Paris
The awards ceremony for the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2015 was organized this year at the Conciergerie, in Paris. This spectacular place (formerly a prison) actually hosted the exhibition of the winning photos of two contests in parallel : Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Earth. About 150 guests were able to admire them while enjoying a glass of champagne and take part in the festive spirit of the evening.
Callisto : mapping artworks worldwide
The Crotos project is a searching engione which allows to display artworks, combining both Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons files. Crotos is based on the aggregation of cultural data. The search is available in twenty different languages, which allows for fine searches using criteria such as author, title, place of conservation, creation date or the depicted elements. On November 13th, Shonagon, who designed Crotos, coded a new feature called Callisto : an interactive map that allows you to explore and view artworks, museums and representations of places worldwide.
When art meets science
Wikimedians of Rennes took advantage of the exhibition "Oberthur, Rennes Printing" at the Rennes museum to take pictures of the entomological collections of Charles Oberthür. The photographs were submitted to the European Science Photo Competition organized on Commons within the category Image sets.
GLAM and copyright
Monsters of Law - an event series about legal issues
Since february 2014, WMDE organises the event series "Monsters of Law", which discusses the legal framework for free knowledge. Experts from law offices or legal departments of cultural institutions give short insights into their topics and discuss them with the audience, community members and other interested people. For example, Prof. Dr. Katharina De la Durantaye, junior professor for civil law, talked about regulation of copyright exceptions in the scientific sector. On the latest edition, Dr. Till Jaeger, specialized lawyer for copyright and entertainment law, held a talk on "10 most popular solecisms about free software".
The events also provide the opportunity for GLAM staff members to ask and discuss very specific questions concerning their own institutions. For example, Dr. Ellen Euler, Deputy Manager of Finances, Law, and Communication at Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek held the talk "Culture and knowledge online - Do´s and don´ts for cultural heritage institutions". The broader idea of "Monsters of law" is not only to provide information on legal issues and free knowledge, but to gather volunteers, lawyers, GLAM staff and other people to make them discuss relevant questions concerning free knowledge together and publicly. Around 25 to 30 visitors come to each event, the view rates of the provided livestreams and videos reach from 100 to 800 views.

Food images donation and much more!
Parma Food Museums
Parma Food Museums are an organization of local Museums in Parma territory dedicated to typical and worldwide known Italian products such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Tomato, Parma Ham, Felino Salami, Wine, Pasta, and Olive Oil.
During this summer, Wikimedia Italia participated in Museimpresa assembly in Fondazione Pirelli, Milan, in order to present its activities with GLAM. Museimpresa is the national association of company museums and archives, gathering relevant brands that tell the story of Made in Italy during the history and in present times. We met there Musei del Cibo coordinator, and this month Wikimedia Italia signed an agreement that represent the first, important result of our effort in joining company museums: Parma Food Museums will donate the entire collection of their images representing artigianal and industrial instruments, advertising posters, and other objects. More than 800 images will enhance documentation about food and Italian typical products on Commons.
Florence National Library meeting
On November 27th librarians and wikipedians got together in Florence Nationa Library for GLAM-Libraries group second meeting, Sfide e alleanze tra Biblioteche e Wikipedia 2.
Florence Library activities, Wikidata, bibliographic data on Wikibase, collaboration with BEIC Library in Milan, Mussolini Digital Library and Wikisource were discussed in the crowded Galileo Room inside the Library.
Associazione Italiana Biblioteche and Italian cultural institutions organization MAB (museums, archives, libraries) were both present in the meeting.
WikiTrento
Trento Public Library is the main public library in the province of Trentino, northeast Italy. From its foundation, in 1856, it collects and preserves all documents published in the area.
In september 2015 Trento Public Library started a GLAM Project with the help of a volunteer of Youth Service, who has been selected and taught as "Wikipedian in residence". The aims of the project are:
- to create and improve Wikipedia articles about Trento Public Library, its founders, personalities of cultural and historical relevance of the city and the province.
- to increase Wikisource with public domain texts about Trento and Trentino, and to proofread and improve texts already existing in Wikisource.
- to create links between the library's OPAC and Wikisource texts.
- to organize meetings and workshops to get patrons, citizens, students involved in the project: inviting and teaching them to edit articles of Wikipedia, proofread texts of Wikisource, upload images of the city and the territory to Wikimedia Commons, with the help of Wikimedia Italia volounteers. The first two meetings took place in the library in november, 17th and 26th: WikiLab
In 2016 the project will focus on Trento women writers: a selection of their texts in public domain preserved in the Trento Public Library will be uploaded to Wikisource, and they will create articles in Wikipedia about women's writings in Trentino.

The main Italian publisher for libraries, Editrice Bibliografica, published this month the manual Come diventare bibliotecari wikipediani, by our member Susanna Giaccai.
Wikimedia Italia and the former minister of culture: a video
A debate between Andrea Zanni, President of Wikimedia Italia, and Massimo Bray, former minister of culture, was broadcasted on the national tv channel Rai5 on November, 25th. The video is fully available online here.
WiBrugherio
After nine months since the opening of the project WiBrugherio, organized in collaboration with the Brugherio Public Library, in Lombardy, Phase 2 of the project started. It includes the participation of local schools: students are involved in improvement of Brugherio article in Wikivoyage and in entering data related to the surrounding territory in OpenStreetMap. It's the wikimedian way to celebrate the 150th anniversary by the foundation of Brugherio as an Italian Comune in 1866.
Rock and movies in Wikipedia
Rock'n wiki: the edit-a-thon at Multiforo Alicia
One of the goals of the last public events at Wikimedia Mexico is give to attendees more ludic and fun experiences in addition to the wiki objectives, having creativity in the election of the places and the challenges to fulfill. On November 28 Wikimedia Mexico did a Wikipedia editing event on Multiforo Cultural Alicia, an alternative and counterculture-based place of arts mainly music. During his last 20 years was the house of thousands of beginning groups of the Mexico City musical scene. It was the place of the revival of some old rhythms fusioned with moderns like ska, surf rock and rockabilly.
The session of editing take place on the space where the crowds dance and mosh-pits during the concerts into four graffitied walls and the main stage of the Alicia. David Cortés Arce, a journalist and Mexican rock encyclopedist gave a talk about the state of the art about documentation and history of the different rock movements in the country. He confessed that Wikipedia don't like him due their lack of accuracy and the articles of several important bands. But he pointed that Wikipedia is absolutely necessary and promised to support the Wikipedia editing labor with documentation in the next event, planned to be held on 2016 in the same place.
Working with Mexico National Film Archives
During 2015 Wikimedia Mexico began a GLAM collaboration with Cineteca Nacional (National Film Archives). Past February and October we did two edit-a-thons that was very productive events, with +100 new articles. The first goal is accomplish the list of 300 Greatest Movies of Mexican Cinema according to Cineteca Nacional, and then work in specifical topics about directors, film industry, etc. One of the current projects is open the currently closed data from Mexican movies to Wikidata and Wikipedia and try to deploy best practices about semantics and categorization from Wikimedia to the mexican film repositories. This free consulting and project leading is performed by User:ProtoplasmaKid with a close volunteer work with Cineteca researchers. There's plans to perform more edit-a-thons also a residence project in 2016.
GLAMing Madrid, Wiki Loves Earth and Carmen Thyssen Museum
GLAMing Madrid
In November, GLAMing Madrid project continued with three highlights to be mentioned. In this month were held seven Wikipedia training sessions open to the public in the three museums. As well, another three Wikipedia training sessions and talks were held for the staff of two of the museums, which received a high participation, mostly female.
After the problems of noise with the recording of the first concert of classical music in the Museum of Romanticism, this month two more concerts were recorded but without audience. From the first of them, ten files were uploaded to Commons and from the second one fourteen files were uploaded. Also, one of the musicians donated 20 more files, so in total it has been uploaded more than 40 classical music files to Wikimedia Commons. By last, it started the organization of a writing contest about the three museums to be held between December and January.
Wiki Loves Earth 2015 Writing Contest
From November 6 until December 6, a writing contest about Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in Spain and Portugal was run. It was organized by Wikimedia España and Wikimedia Portugal, and was part of the international photo contest Wiki Loves Earth held in May 2015. We seek to create items of Sites of Community Importance and elements contained in them, and to use photographs that were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons during the last edition of the contest Wiki Loves Earth. Results will be publish soon.
Carmen Thyssen Museum
Promoted by Carmen Thyssen Museum of Málaga and with the collaboration of Wikimedia Spain and the University of Málaga, a talk about Wikipedia and an edit-a-thon were held at the Museum. The talk was on November 9 and the edit-a-thon was organized in four distinct days (November 13, 16, 18 and 20), focused in the Museum´s collection, the building, biographies and paintings.

Exhibitions
The Swedish Exhibition Agency tour has continued during November with four workshops in Visby, Östersund, Vadstena and Gävle and a total of 27 participants from more then ten GLAMs. Articles about exhibitions (100 år Nationalmuseum, Efter Tsunamin – barns berättelser från Asien och Sverige) and concepts (Kulturarvspedagogik, Världsutställning, Utställningsdesign, and more) has been expanded and created, and more articles are growing in sandboxes or waiting for feedback and publication. Some of the GLAMs are also working on digitizing images and new policies for making material available under free and open licenses to be able to illustrate both the articles they are creating and already existing articles.
Four more workshops are scheduled for December, and the contracted writers will continue to produce articles about concepts and biographies for the rest of the year.

LSH
In what has become a long term collaboration effort we completed the third major upload from the Royal Armoury, Skokloster Castle and the Hallwyl Museum (LSH). 6,500 high resolution images were uploaded depicting various objects from the vast collections of the museums. This continues LSH's policy of making their material available in the highest possible resolution, which goes on alongside the ongoing project of digitising their collections. Iterating on what we've learnt from the previous two uploads we managed to streamline many of the steps further thus making the next upload even better. The museum will also publish a blog post on the internal benefits of exposing images and metadata to the public in bulk.

Scotland
Sara Thomas' residency at Museums Galleries Scotland is ongoing. During October & November she trained a number of museum staff and trainees to use Wikipedia following introductory talks about the benefits of open knowledge for museums earlier in the year to Museums Forums and internally at Museums Galleries Scotland. She also participated in the University of Edinburgh's Ada Lovelace Day, leading an editathon, and delivered two workshops to delegates from the world's leading research universities as part of the Universitas21 conference.
She has recently started training museum staff to use Wikipedia using the Visual Editor, and is both a convert and very excited about the possibilities that this opens for increasing participation amongst GLAM staff, particularly those with deep collections knowledge, but without high level digital skills.
Sounds like open-licensed wildlife recordings
Andy Mabbett and Clem Rutter helped to run an editathon at the British Library, in preparation for which the library donated the copyright of, and uploaded, 100 recordings of British wildlife. Volunteers, several new to Wikimedia projects, together with BL staff, added the files to articles on Wikipedias in 40 different languages, to Wikispecies and to Wikidata. Please add them to other projects, too!
Archives+, Manchester
Andy ran a session aimed at new editors, at and in conjunction with Archives+ at Manchester Central Library. Six attendees (four members of the public and two staff) were shown how to edit, using both Visual Editor and Wikicode.
Oxford
At the Bodleian Library, Martin Poulter has run a number of events in the past two months:
- A Wikisource transcribe-a-thon (the first ever?) for Ada Lovelace week
- Wikipedia edit-a-thon, improve-a-thon, and transcribe-a-thon to improve Women in Science articles
- A lunchtime workshop on "Under the bonnet of Wikipedia", which looked at some tools and discussed how Wikipedia works. Although it was not a training event, this one-hour session generated a surprising amount of enthusiasm.
- A seminar for researchers and students at the Oxford Internet Institute
- Wikipedia editathon: World War I
- "Working with the Open Culture Movement", a workshop for librarians
- A talk to social media staff in the University, asking them to release digital media under free licences
The Bodleian is exploring the potential for bulk uploads of images, and the technical requirements are nearly in place.
CILIP Update, a magazine for librarians and information professionals, published a two-page article by Martin calling for cultural institutions to improve Wikipedia articles and Wikisource profiles relating to historic authors. The article is paywalled now but will be released on the public web in the future.
Upcoming are a training event for authors to write about free speech, an editathon about social media for Wikipedia's birthday, and the first Tudor Music editathon.

Andy also attended a Europeana/ OpenMinTeD project meeting on text and data mining, in The Hague, Netherlands, in order to add his perspective as a Wikipedian.

The Cascadian Wikimedians User Group partnered with the UW Libraries in conducting an edit-a-thon on each Monday in November at the Wikipedia Lab at the University of Washington Research Commons. These Pacific Northwest edit-a-thons had these themes: Hawks & Huskies: Northwest Sports; Native Americans in the Northwest; The Port of Seattle as a Site of Labor; Water, Ecology & Sustainability; and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Economy of the Pacific Northwest.
Guerrilla GLAMː An alternate way of doing GLAM in indie-way
How to do Guerrilla GLAM
GLAM stands for cultural institutions like Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums. It is a globally acclaimed free knowledge movement for opening up cultural data using various free software platforms as a tool. GLAM activities include collaboration with cultural institutions, data mining, meta data and other documentation of institutional collections, digitization of published works, records and artifacts, and publishing the collected information in both human and machine readable forms with open standards. Building partnership with GLAM institutions is a great way of funneling the cultural content acquisition and bringing open access to such valuable data. But it is not that easy given the complications each country have in terms of formal agreement, organizational framework, and dissemination of information. "Guerrilla GLAM" techniques are based on the learning curve of institutional partnership building for large scale GLAM projects and leveraging personal contacts in small scale GLAM projects. It bring in several frugal strategies for cutting cost implication and operating in flexible modes. Guerrilla GLAM's range of work aims to accommodate people of different core expertise and it _targets small to large organizations.
Guerrilla GLAM appeared first as a public presentation during Wikimania which I presented this year. It later interested many GLAM practitioners of New Zealand who organized a webinar which provided a great platform to add many interesting ideas to my existing set of ideas. Guerrilla GLAM is still a budding concept that aims for being implemented by many cultural enthusiasts especially those who would like to document much about the artifacts, digitize old text from archives and manuscripts, and create meta data for institutional collections. Guerrilla GLAM operates with zero or with some informal institutional partnership with the institution and carried on the shoulders of the Wikimedians. The Wikimedians seek out for support from local communities, leverage the permissible access to institutional property and to some extent the personal relations with the institutions keeping the legal restrictions in mind, and do their best to acquire as much data as possible. Often times, near to zero cost Guerrilla GLAM projects with detailed planning with right kind of people on-board could yield more or less the same like any conventional GLAM project.
OpenCon; Robots, oysters and amber
OpenCon
On November 14-16, about 150 mostly young people came together at OpenCon in Brussels to exchange experiences and discuss recent and future developments in the areas of open access, open data, open educational resources. Amongst the speakers were Jimmy Wales and Michael Eisen, who stressed that researchers can and should engage more actively with Wikipedia and its sister projects.
In the weeks around that central event in Brussels, dozens of satellite events on the same topics are taking place around the globe.
