UTF-8 Bug: umlaut misdisplayed
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: wiki.bugzilla

Description:
After UTF-8 introduction to the german WP there have been reported problems see
URI concerning umlauts. There is no proof yet if it is a reproducable bug though
we suspect it to be a global problem since we have no users with diakritika in
their nicks so far, this name i.e. škoda, němec. It seems adequate to run some
testcases.
The problem here is that the userlink is broken, see URI. The correct user is
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Sascha_Br%C3%BCck (with "ü") - please
compare also http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Flagge_Woiwodschaft_Lebus.png
where the link is correct.
An early reply will oblige Bdk and Paddy. Thanx for your trouble.

Looks like the image table may need conversion. Is it just that username or others?

It especially it is a leagal problem. If the names are misspelled the GNU license seemes
void for CD projects, Wiki readers, etc. Thank you for your understanding.

Does the image table need to be converted as part of the 1.5 upgrade, or can it
be done anytime?

Bogus entries in image still seem to be there...

Is this bug still valid? The referenced image has been deleted.

Update URL, the effect can still be seen on the undelete form. Was it a one time glitch and we can close this ticket? Never heard again about this bug.

It's an old issue from the encoding upgrades a few years ago, but we apparently still have affected entries which require cleanup.

Adding shell keyword, since this is an issue with old WMF data rather than current MediaWiki trunk or supported versions.

This seems to be stale. Feel free to reopen if further examples emerge.

Resolving out as WORKSFORME rather than LATER so we don't keep turning it up again with no problem examples; reopen if further examples emerge.
