I'm closing this for now as we'll need to look at the topic more holistically and I believe a random split is probably last on the list of things we want to do before some other more meaningful splits.

I am just realizing that the ticket is about the Query Builder but the original request on-wiki is actually linking to a query in the Query Service UI.
I am fairly sure this needs to be fixed in the Query Service UI instead.

This works because there is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Wikidata (and the related templates and Lua modules it calls) on English Wikipedia. This is what is being called in your example. If it doesn't exist on zhwiki then the call can not work.

I agree with you that this is something that should be fixed in Codex. I don't think we should remove them there until that is fixed.

We specifically added them in T313113 based on community feedback.

Please do not move this without coordination with the Wikidata team. This requires changes in the Query Service UI among other places to preserve the examples.
